A susceptibility indexing method was developed based oil vulnerability and quality indices. The contamination Susceptibility index (SI) at a given location was calculated by taking file product Of the Vulnerability index (VI) and the quality index (QI): SI = VI x QI. This method incorporates both hydrogeological and hydrochemical data for a comprehensive index mapping. The DRASTIC index methodology was used for the hydrogeological data evaluations. The quality index calculation procedure based oil a water quality classification scheme was introduced to evaluate hydrochemical data. The suggested susceptibility indexing method was applied to the Kucuk Menderes river basin located in western Turkey. The susceptibility index map shows both hydrogeological and hydrochemical data related to the contamination problem including areas that should be taken into consideration during Water management planning. The index map indicates that the most susceptible groundwater is located along the river channel between Kiraz and Tire towns, in the Selcuk area and along the Fertek stream channel to the north of Torbah town. file results indicate that the incorporation of both hydrogeological and hydrochemical datasets enables more realistic evaluations than those of an individual dataset to estimate the groundwater contamination Susceptibility of an aquifer. The numerical procedure applied Could be extended further by including other parameters Such as retardation, potential contaminant Sources, etc. that affect the water quality ill it given basin.

Nucleophilic and electrophilic cyclization reactions of n-alkyne substituted pyrrole derivatives
Yenice, Işıl; Balcı, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2016)
Pyrrolopyrazinone, triazinone and oxazinone derivatives were synthesized via practical methodologies. In the study, N-alkyne substituted pyrrole esters were synthesized and isolated as key compounds via copper catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. Then, key compounds underwent nucleophilic cyclization reaction with hydrazine monohydrate to yield pyrrolopyrazinone and/or pyrrolotriazinone derivatives according to electronic properties of group attached to alkyne unit. Additional study was the synthesis of pyrro...
Cadmium removal using clinoptilolite : influence of conditioning and regeneration
Gedik, Kadir; İmamoğlu, İpek; Department of Environmental Engineering (2006)
Clinoptilolite samples obtained from two deposits in Turkey were tested for their potential in removing cadmium from aqueous solutions. Preliminary experiments in batch mode revealed inferior cadmium uptake at low pH. Particle size was found to have no effect on cadmium removal efficiency suggesting the use of exchangeable cations found in the internal/available sites. Increasing temperature yielded positive, whereas prewashing had no effect on cadmium removal using both clinoptilolite samples. The Langmuir...
Asymmetric synthesis of norbornene based 1,4-amino alcohol derivatives and applications in asymmetric transformations
Sünbül, Murat; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2005)
The asymmetric synthesis of cis-1,4-aminoalcohols with norbornene backbone was performed starting with simple and cheap anhydride 30. Quinine-mediated desymmetrization of anhydride 30 with methanol resulted in (2S,3R)-(-)-cis-hemiester 31 (98% e.e.). Chemoselective amination with HMPTA and NH4OH followed by LAH reduction afforded (2S,3R)-(+)-36 and (2S,3R)-(-)-37, respectively. The amidoester (2S,3R)-(-)-32 was transformed into chiral ligand (2S,3R)-(-)-35 with Grignard reaction followed by LAH reduction. T...

The vicinal diaryl heterocyclic framework has been widely used for the development of compounds with significant bioactivities. In this study, a series of diaryl heterocycles were designed and synthesized based on an in-house diaryl isoxazole derivative (9), and most of the newly synthesized derivatives demonstrated moderate to good antiproliferative activities against a panel of hepatocellular carcinoma and breast cancer cells, exemplified with the diaryl isoxazole 11 and the diaryl pyrazole 85 with IC50 v...
Groundwater vulnurability assessment with DRASTIC method : a case-study on Kırıkkale Plain, Turkey
Büyükdemirci, Ahmet Hakan; Önder, Halil; Department of Civil Engineering (2012)
The objective of this study is to achieve vulnerability assessment of the groundwater by using DRASTIC Method which is developed by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). It is most commonly used overlay and index method all over the world. Evaluation of groundwater vulnerability would be performed by using computer programs which are based on Geographical Information System (GIS) in order to facilitate data management and spatial analysis. The term vulnerability, that is used in this study,...
