In this paper, various generator types and control systems employed in wind energy conversion systems have been reviewed with particular emphasis on systems including induction generators. Advantages and disadvantages of these systems and relative generator sizes are also discussed. Variable shaft speed schemes employing induction generators have been studied more closely and the important aspects of the findings are emphasized. Throughout the paper, the importance of maximizing the conversion efficiency is stressed. The parameters controlling the energy conversion are identified. Simple methods have been developed to determine the optimum parameters for a constant speed synchronous generator wind energy conversion system and a variable speed squirrel-cage induction generator wind energy conversion system. This last configuration is shown to have advantages from the viewpoint of energy production as well as some other aspects including simplicity and robustness.

Giaourakis, Dimitrios G.; Safacas, Athanasios N.; Tsotoulidis, Savvas (2011-09-10)
In this paper, a wind energy conversion system that uses the "Cascade technology" especially the structure of Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is presented and analyzed. Moreover, a simulation of this wind energy conversion system under fault conditions in MATLAB/SIMULINK is done and the results are evaluated. Open-circuit faults in one IGBT or in two IGBTs are studied.
An Autonomous Interface Circuit Based on Self-Investing Synchronous Energy Extraction for Low Power Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters
ÇİFTCİ, BERKAY; Chamanian, S.; Uluşan, H.; Külah, Haluk (2019-12-04)
This paper presents a self-powered interface circuit to rectify and manage the AC output of the piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEH) by utilizing Self-Investing Synchronous Electric Charge Extraction technique (SI-SECE). The system invests charges from the battery to PEH to improve the electromechanical coupling factor and consequently the energy extraction by utilizing only one external component. The circuit was implemented in 180 nm CMOS technology where high voltage (HV) MOS transistors are utilized to...
Investigation of Self-Excited Ultrahigh Speed Induction Generators for Distributed Generation Systems
Jardan, Rafael K.; Varga, Zoltan; Nagy, Istvan (2011-09-10)
Application of ultra high speed induction generators (IG) in a system developed for utilization of renewable and waste energies that can be applied in Distributed Generation System is presented. The energy conversion is made by a turbine-generator set. For the electromechanical energy conversion application of special high speed induction generators has been studied and described in the paper. The design and analysis of the system are relied on computer simulation techniques verified by test results.

This paper describes mobile power quality monitoring systems developed to carry out extensive power quality (PQ) measurements nationwide, in addition to instrumentation and measurement technologies used in those systems. The developed systems have been used to measure the PQ of the Turkish Electricity Transmission System, which is among the largest transmission systems in Europe. To make trouble-shooting studies at the problematic measurement points in terms of PQ different measuring instruments and a wide ...
A New Selective Harmonic Elimination Method for Wind Farm Using Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, Under Wind Speed Change
Ebadi, Mazdak; Joorabian, Mahmood (2011-09-10)
Different types of generators are used in wind farms including Synchronous and Asynchronous generators and Double Fed Induction Generators (DFIG). In Synchronous generator case, a power electronic circuit called a cyclo-converter is used as an interface to connect the generator to network. This circuit uses a DC-AC inverter with controllable switches that implies the proper and fixed amplitude and frequency in the output. This paper proposes a new method to minimize the harmonics amplitude that contains the...
