Experimental data related to 40 MHz Argon plasma parameters in the RF power and pressure ranges of 25-200W and 0.2-0.5 Torr are presented. Electron temperatures are obtained using both double probe and optical spectroscopy methods. Acceptable consistency between results is obtained. Double probe method is also used to obtain the plasma electron density. At any particular pressure value, the effect of increasing RF power seems to be restricted to increasing plasma electron density rather than affecting the plasma electron temperatures. Signature of the Paschen law effect is reflected on the relation between pressure and electron plasma density. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. One-dimensional fluid and hybrid numerical analysis of the plasma properties in the discharge channel of a Hall thruster
YUNCULER, Cinar; Rafatov, İsmail; Ulusen, DEMET (2018-01-01)
One-dimensional fluid and hybrid fluid-kinetic numerical codes are developed and applied to the analysis of axial distributions of plasma properties in the discharge channel of a Hall-effect thruster. Within the hybrid model ions are described by the kinetic Vlasov equation, while electrons and neutral atoms are treated as fluids. The results obtained from fluid and hybrid models are compared. Different operating regimes such as damped, periodic, and aperiodic irregular oscillations about the stationary sta...
Numerical analysis of radio frequency inductively coupled ion thruster and computation of its performance parameters
Bozkurt, Erdal; Alemdaroğlu, Nafiz.; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
The main goal of this thesis is geometric and parametric analysis of a simulated cylin-drical two-gridded Radio Frequency Inductively Coupled (RF-ICP) ion thruster. Inaddition, instrumental performance of this thruster and the effects of a fixed shapeof the electrodes on ion trajectories are investigated. The simulations of the plasmaand the ion optics are performed by using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The firststep is checking the reliability of the software. Radial and axial simulation parametricresults...
Indications of Suppression of Excited Upsilon States in Pb-Pb Collisions at root(NN)-N-s=2.76 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2011-07-01)
A comparison of the relative yields of Upsilon resonances in the mu(+)mu(-) decay channel in Pb-Pb and pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV is performed with data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Using muons of transverse momentum above 4 GeV/c and pseudorapidity below 2.4, the double ratio of the Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) excited states to the Upsilon(1S) ground state in Pb-Pb and pp collisions, [Upsilon(2S + 3S)/Upsilon(1S)](Pb-Pb) /[Upsilon 2S + 3S)/Upsilon(1...
Ion implantation and deposition on the inner surfaces of cylinders by exploding metallic foils
Demokan, O (2000-10-01)
A novel scheme for ion deposition and possibly ion implantation on the inner surfaces of cylindrical targets is proposed and experimentally tested. A large current is passed through a coaxial table-type structure, composed of a straight conductor and a thin metallic foil, surrounding it. The foil evaporates and ionizes forming a metallic plasma, which is pushed radially outward due to the pressure of the magnetic field, confined to the region between the plasma and the conductor. The ions of the foil materi...
Plasma polymerization of selected organic compounds
Dilsiz, N; Akovali, G (1996-01-01)
Plasma polymerization reactions and plasma polymers of xylene/air, xylene/argon, xylene/air/argon, toluene/air/argon, dioxane and allyl cyanide were compared with respect to discharge power (between 50 and 500 W), where all other plasma operational parameters were kept constant. In plasma polymerization, the glow characteristics are known to play an important role depending on the factor W/F,where W is the discharge power and Fis the monomer flow rate. In plasma polymerization reactions, it is known that de...
