Colloidally stable and highly luminescent near-IR emitting Ag2S quantum dots (NIRQDs) were prepared by a very simple aqueous method using 2-mercaptopropionic acid (2MPA) as a coating. Emission of Ag2S-2MPA NIRQDs can be tuned between 780 and 950 nm. These NIRQDs have photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY) around 7-39% and exhibit excellent cytocompatibility even at 600 mu g mL(-1) in NIH/3T3 cells. With such improved properties, Ag2S-2MPA NIRQDs have a great potential in practical bio-applications.

Development of novel Ag/bauxite nanocomposite as a heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production
Bet-Moushoul, Elsie; Farhadi, Khalil; Mansourpanah, Yaghoub; Molaie, Rahim; Forough, Mehrdad; Nikbakht, Ali Mohammad (2016-07-01)
Ag/bauxite nanocomposites have been prepared using in situ reduction of aqueous AgNO3 solution in a bauxite matrix and investigated for the transesterification of sunflower oil with methanol in order to study their potential as heterogeneous catalysts. The prepared nanocopmosites were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, and TG- DTA. The Central Composite Design of the Response Surface Methodology was used to optimize the effect of reaction temperature, reaction time, catalyst loading and methanol to oil ...
Emergence of 2MPA as an Effective Coating for Highly Stable and Luminescent Quantum Dots
Acar, Havva Yagci; Kas, Recep; Yurtsever, Ersin; Özen, Can; Lieberwirth, Ingo (2009-06-11)
3-Mercaptopropionic acid (3MPA) is a popular coating material for the preparation of aqueous quantum dots, yet its isomer 2-mercaptopropionic acid (2MPA) has not been much studied. Here, we present a detailed study on the aqueous synthesis of CdS quantum dots with a 2MPA coating. Reaction variables Such as the Cd/S ratio, 2MPA/Cd ratio, pH, and temperature were individually studied to evaluate the influence of these variables on particle size and luminescence. At the optimum ratios and reaction conditions, ...
Bactericidal and in vitro osteogenic activity of nano sized cobalt-doped silicate hydroxyapatite
Alshemary, Ammar Z.; Hussain, Rafaqat; Dalgic, Ali Deniz; Evis, Zafer (2022-10-01)
Hydroxyapatite (HA) particles with enhanced antibacterial properties can be prepared by integrating metal ions into the crystal structure of the nanoparticles. Cobalt and silicate ions containing HA (Co/Si-HA) with the formula Ca10-xCox(PO4)6-y(SiO4)y(OH)2 (x = 0.2, 0.6, and 1.0 and y = 0.5) was successfully synthesised by using microwave-assisted wet precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and inductively coupled...
Development and application of novel bio-magnetic membrane capsules for the removal of the cationic dye malachite green in wastewater treatment
Ali, Imran; Peng, Changsheng; Naz, Iffat; Lin, Dichu; Saroj, Devendra P.; Ali, Mohsin (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2019-01-29)
Novel bio-magnetic membrane capsules (BMMCs) were prepared by a simple two-step titration-gel cross-linking method using a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginate (SA) matrix to control the disintegration of phytogenic magnetic nanoparticles (PMNPs) in an aqueous environment, and their performance was investigated for adsorbing cationic malachite green (MG) dye from water. The prepared BMMCs were characterized by FTIR, powder XRD, SEM, EDX, XPS, VSM and TGA techniques. The findings revealed that the hys...
Development of Ru0/MO2 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf, Ce) catalysts for electrocatalytic hydrogen production from water splitting
Demir, Elif; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Department of Chemistry (2017)
In this study, Ru0/MO2 catalysts were prepared by reduction of ruthenium(III) chloride on different types of metal oxides, which were TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2 and HfO2, then catalysts were loaded on glassy carbon (GC) electrodes at same mass loading level, and used as electrocatalysts in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Characterization of prepared catalysts were done by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy and X...
