CeO2-ZrO2 was proven to be a quite effective catalyst support for steam reforming of ethanol (SRE). In this study, properties of Ni impregnated mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts of different compositions were optimized by changing the calcination/reduction temperature. Increase of calcination/reduction temperature from 400 degrees C to 650 degrees C caused significant decrease in surface area and redox ability of the catalysts, yielding higher coke formation and lower hydrogen yields. Results proved that, very high hydrogen selectivity values with negligible coke formation can be achieved at a SRE reaction temperature of 450 degrees C, over the Ni impregnated ceria zirconia mixed oxide catalyst, which was also calcined/reduced at 450 degrees C. Considering its high hydrogen selectivity values with negligible coke formation, the catalyst containing a CeO2/ZrO2 ratio of 6:1 was found as the best catalyst for low temperature SRE. Achievement of high hydrogen yields with negligible coke formation at SRE temperatures as low as 400 degrees C was quite promising from the point of view of hydrogen economy. Steam reforming of ethanol with zirconia incorporated mesoporous silicate supported catalysts
ARSLAN KELAM, ARZU; Gunduz, Seval; Doğu, Timur (2014-10-31)
Steam reforming of ethanol is a promising route for the production of high purity hydrogen. Ni impregnated zirconia, with high chemical and thermal stability and high water adsorption-dissociation capability is an attractive catalyst for this reaction. In the present study, mesoporous zirconia and high surface area zirconia/silicate structured materials, such as Zr-SBA-15 and Zr-MCM-41, were synthesized following hydrothermal routes, using different surfactants as the structure directing templates. Surface ...
Effects of synthesis route on the performance of mesoporous ceria-alumina and ceria-zirconia-alumina supported nickel catalysts in steam and autothermal reforming of diesel
Bozda, Arzu Arslan; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur (2022-01-01)
Decline in catalyst performance due to coke deposition is the main problem in diesel steam (SR) and autothermal reforming (ATR) reactions. Good redox potential and strong interaction of CeO2 with nickel increase activity and coke resistivity of Ni/Al2O3 catalysts. In this study, mesoporous Al2O3, CeO2/Al2O3, and CeO2/ZrO2/Al2O3 supported nickel catalysts were successfully synthesized. The highest hydrogen yield, 97.7%, and almost no coke deposition were observed with CeO2/ZrO2/Al2O3 catalyst (Ni@8CeO(2)-2Zr...
Performance comparison of microwave and conventionally heated reactors for sorption enhanced reforming of ethanol over Ni impregnated SBA-15
Sarıyer, Merve; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Doğu, Timur (2019-12-01)
Hydrogen production from steam reforming of ethanol (SRE) and sorption enhanced steam reforming of ethanol (SESRE) over nickel impregnated SBA-15 catalyst was investigated in both conventionally and microwave heated reactor systems. Characterization results showed that 10 wt% Ni loaded SBA-15 exhibited Type IV isotherm with H1 hysteresis, which indicates mesoporous structure. Its surface area and mean pore diameter values were 493 m(2)/g and 6.5 nm, respectively. Results obtained in SRE tests showed high ac...
Effect of W incorporation on the product distribution in steam reforming of bio-oil derived acetic acid over Ni based Zr-SBA-15 catalyst
Cakiryilmaz, Nurbanu; ARBAĞ, HÜSEYİN; OKTAR, NURAY; DOĞU, GÜLŞEN; Doğu, Timur (2018-02-15)
Zirconia incorporated SBA-15 type mesoporous material was synthesized following a one pot hydrothermal route, characterized and used as the catalyst support in the synthesis of Ni and bi-metallic Ni W based catalysts. Performances of these catalysts were tested in steam reforming of AcOH. Catalytic activity tests proved that the performances of SBA-15 and Zr-SBA-15 supported Ni based catalysts were highly stable and they also showed very high activity in steam reforming of acetic acid, giving complete conve...
Effect of boron compounds on fire protection properties of epoxy based intumescent coating
ÜNLÜ, Şaban Murat; Tayfun, Umit; YILDIRIM, Bekir; DOĞAN, Mehmet (2017-01-01)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of boron compounds on fire protection properties of intumescent coating based on ammonium polyphosphate (APP). Three kinds of boron compounds namely boric acid (BA), zinc borate (ZB) and melamine borate (MB) were used. Total amount of flame retardant additive was kept constant at 30 wt%, and boron compounds were used at three concentrations of 1, 3 and 5 wt%. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectros...
