Sayindere cap rock integrity during possible CO2 sequestration in Turkey
Dalkhaa, Chantsalmaa; Okandan, Ender (Elsevier BV; 2011)
One way to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere for the mitigation of climate change is to capture the CO2 and inject it into geological formations. The most important public concern about carbon capture and storage (CCS) is whether stored CO2 will leak into groundwater sources and finally into the atmosphere. To prevent the leakage, the possible leakage paths and the mechanisms triggering the paths must be examined and identified. It is known that the leakage paths can be due to CO2 - rock interactio...
Kayraktepe dam and HEPP, environmentally acceptable alternative solution
Sever, Özgür; Tiğrek, Şahnaz; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
In this study, alternative solution of Kayraktepe Dam is investigated. Kayraktepe Dam was planned more than 30 years ago, but due to various reasons the construction could not be realized. In this study, an alternative feasible formulation was developed. Former Kayraktepe Dam was planned for multiple objectives: flood control, energy generation and water supply for irrigation. The newly developed formulation was designed to meet these objects as well.
Pamuk’s Kars and its others : an ethnography on identifications and boundaries of ethnicity, nationalism and secularism
Sarıaslan, Kübra Zeynep; Strasser, Sabine; Department of Sociology (2010)
Kars is an ethnically diverse city located at the North East Turkey, neighboring Armenia. In the year 2002, Nobel laureate author Orhan Pamuk published a political-historical novel named Snow, the story of which is set in Kars. The book created a public debate on national and global scale about cutting edge questions of Turkey. This thesis aims to address these questions from the perspective of inhabitants of Kars, who had reacted fiercely to the representations in the book Snow. By focusing on identificati...
Bayrak, Ayşe Hilal. Title Business process definition for technical publication needs : a defense company case
Bayrak, Ayşe Hilal; Çağıltay, Kürşat; Department of Information Systems (2013)
In large scale projects and organizations, standardization requirements in terms of customer documentations to integrate data created by different contractors or departments is a critical issue. Considerable amount of the defense system projects in Turkey are collaboration projects conveyed by leading actors in the industry. In this case, standardizing technical publications in terms of operators’ and maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs and multimedia publications become harder and more complex ...
Çubukbeli Tunnel, classification systems, rock mass strength parameters, excavation and support systems, finite element analysis
Karahan, Ercüment; Bilgin, Hasan Aydın; Department of Mining Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, suggestion of appropriate excavation and support systems and selection of rock mass strength parameters for the determination of these systems were carried out for the Çubukbeli Tunnel in Antalya. Çubukbeli Tunnel is a twin tube flute shaped tunnel with 1985 m length, 12 m width, 10 m height and maximum overburden thickness of 130 m. The tunnel area consists of limestone, clayey limestone, claystone, marl and siltsone. Rock mass classification systems are used for evaluation of rock mass cha...
