Pamuk’s Kars and its others : an ethnography on identifications and boundaries of ethnicity, nationalism and secularism
Sarıaslan, Kübra Zeynep; Strasser, Sabine; Department of Sociology (2010)
Kars is an ethnically diverse city located at the North East Turkey, neighboring Armenia. In the year 2002, Nobel laureate author Orhan Pamuk published a political-historical novel named Snow, the story of which is set in Kars. The book created a public debate on national and global scale about cutting edge questions of Turkey. This thesis aims to address these questions from the perspective of inhabitants of Kars, who had reacted fiercely to the representations in the book Snow. By focusing on identificati...

Aksu-Dinar Fault System: Its Bearing on the Evolution of the Isparta Angle (SW Turkey)
Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Gülyüz, Erhan; Van Hinsbergen, Douwe (null; 2017-04-28)
The Isparta Angle is a triangular structure in SW Turkey with NE-SW trending western and NW-SE trending eastern flanks. Aksu Fault is located within the core of this structure and have been taken-up large E-W shortening and sinistral translation since the Late Miocene. It is an inherited structure which emplaced Antalya nappes over the Beydaǧları Platform during the late Eocene to Late Miocene and was reactivated by the Pliocene as a high angle reverse fault to accommodate the counter-clockwise rotation of ...
Kayraktepe dam and HEPP, environmentally acceptable alternative solution
Sever, Özgür; Tiğrek, Şahnaz; Department of Civil Engineering (2010)
In this study, alternative solution of Kayraktepe Dam is investigated. Kayraktepe Dam was planned more than 30 years ago, but due to various reasons the construction could not be realized. In this study, an alternative feasible formulation was developed. Former Kayraktepe Dam was planned for multiple objectives: flood control, energy generation and water supply for irrigation. The newly developed formulation was designed to meet these objects as well.
Sarackoy Volcanic Suite: implications for the subductional phase of arc evolution in the Galatean Arc Complex, Ankara, Turkey
Kocyigit, A; Winchester, JA; Bozkurt, Erdin; Holland, G (Wiley, 2003-01-01)
A sequence of upper Campanian volcanic rocks, hitherto considered as part of the Miocene calc-alkaline Galatean volcanic sequence, crops out near Sarackoy, 40 km north of Ankara. These volcanic rocks, unconformably overlain by Eocene nummulitic limestones, comprise thin flows and volcaniclastic deposits. They can be divided compositionally into three distinct subunits: (i) basal massive trachyandesitic volcaniclastic rocks with a thin flow at the top, overlain by (ii) mixed volcaniclastic rocks and thin amy...
