An Al2O3 sample obtained from Seydisehir Eti Aluminyum A.S was treated and characterized for its potential use as a catalyst support. Atomic absorption spectroscopy and flame photometry characterization revealed the presence of 95.52% Al2O3 , 4.44% Na2O, and 0.043% Fe2O3 in the original sample. Both gamma-Al2O3 and alpha-Al2O3 phases were identified in the crystalline structure by X-ray diffraction analysis. However, alpha-Al2O3 was found to be the phase in abundance. The BET surface area of the original sample was found to be 40.85 m(2)/g. The original sample was treated in various concentrations of hydrochloric acid to remove Na2O impurity. The acid concentration was optimized for the Na-2 O removal efficiency and surface area enhancement. The optimum HCl concentration was found to be 1 M. 1 Pt/Al2O3 catalysts prepared from these supports and a reference support (Johnson Matthey gamma-Al2O3) were tested for CO oxidation reactions. Catalysts prepared fromSeydisehir alumina showed reasonable activity for the CO oxidation reaction.

The applicability of Fenton's oxidation to improve the biodegradability of a pharmaceutical wastewater to be treated biologically was investigated. The wastewater was originated from a factory producing a variety of pharmaceutical chemicals. Treatability studies were conducted under laboratory conditions with all chemicals (having COD varying from 900 to 7000 mg/L) produced in the factory in order to determine the operational conditions to utilize in the full-scale treatment plant. Optimum pH was determined...
Application of L-prolinamides as highly efficient organocatalysts for the asymmetric Michael addition of unmodified aldehydes to nitroalkenes
Naziroglu, Hayriye Nevin; DURMAZ, MUSTAFA; Bozkurt, Selahattin; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; SIRIT, ABDULKADİR (2012-01-31)
The asymmetric Michael addition of aldehydes to nitroolefins was investigated using a combination of L-prolinamide derivatives and various acidic additives. (S)-1,1'-Bi-2-naphthol was found to be the most effective co-catalyst and afforded the nitroaldehyde products with excellent yields (up to 95%), enantiomeric excesses (up to 99%) and diastereoselectivity ratios (up to 99:1).
CO Oxidation over Mono and Bi-Metallic Sequentially Impregnated Pd-Pt Catalysts
Kaya, Sarp; Üner, Deniz (2008-01-01)
The CO oxidation capability of sequentially impregnated Pd-Pt/gamma-Al(2)O(3) bimetallic catalysts was tested. The CO oxidation light-off curves were hierarchically spaced between monometallic Pd and monometallic Pt, which showed the highest and lowest activity, respectively, indicating that sequential impregnation did not result in the formation of bimetallic particles, but that the catalysts remained as monometallic entities over the support surface. An investigation of the effect of CO partial pressure o...
Role of Boron in Enhancing the Catalytic Performance of Supported Platinum Catalysts for the Nonoxidative Dehydrogenation of n-Butane

Platinum-based supported catalysts for hydrocarbon conversion are among the most effective for selective dehydrogenation and isomerization processes. However, high process temperatures and the possibility of coke formation require catalyst modifications to mitigate such effects. One of the emerging approaches to prevent platinum catalyst deactivation is the use of boron additives that have been proposed to prevent coking. Despite such a valuable property of boron, the mechanisms for extending the catalyst l...
High performance Pt nanoparticles prepared by new surfactants for C-1 to C-3 alcohol oxidation reactions
ŞEN, FATİH; Gökağaç Arslan, Gülsün; Sen, Selda (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-09-07)
In this study, platinum nanoparticles have been prepared using PtCl4 as a starting material and 1-hexylamine, N-methylhexylamine, N,N-dimethylhexylamine, 1-heptylamine, N-methylheptylamine, and N, N-dimethylheptylamine as surfactants. All these surfactants were used in this synthesis, for the first time, to explore the effect of primary, secondary, and tertiary amine and chain length on the size and catalytic activity toward C1-C3 alcohol electro-oxidation. The electrochemical performance of all catalysts w...
