Thermoluminescence properties of undoped and Dy doped MgB4O7 compounds were studied with the irradiation of Cf-252 source. The TL kinetic parameters of MgB4O7: Dy were studied by computer glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) method. The glow curve structures of 1% Dy doped magnesium tetraborate compound consists of at least five glow peaks with a main dosimetric peak at about 220 degrees C. The highest sensitivity which is approximately 1.90 and 1.47 times higher than that of TLD-600 and TLD-700 was found for MgB4O7: Dy (1 mol%). The results clearly showed that Dysprosium doped magnesium borate has a potential to be considered as the thermoluminescence neutron + gamma dosimeter.

Investigation of neutron sensitivity of un-doped and Dy-doped CaB4O7 for thermoluminescence applications
Iflazoglu, Sera; Yılmaz, Ayşen; KAFADAR, VURAL EMİR; YAZICI, AHMET NECMEDDİN (2018-09-01)
In this study, thermoluminescence characteristics of un-doped and Dy-doped calcium tetraborate (CaB4O7) compounds are reported. The polycrystalline powder samples of un-doped and Dy-doped CaB4O7 were prepared by a solid-state reaction at high-temperature method. The identification and characteristics of the obtained compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared analysis, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The glow curves ...
Isotope Fractionation Associated with the Biodegradation of 2-and 4-Nitrophenols via Monooxygenation Pathways
Wijker, Reto S.; Kurt, Zöhre; Spain, Jim C.; Bolotin, Jakov; Zeyer, Josef; Hofstetter, Thomas B. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2013-12-17)
Monooxygenation is an important route of nitroaromatic compound (NAC) biodegradation and it is widely found for cometabolic transformations of NACs and other aromatic pollutants. We investigated the C and N isotope fractionation of nitrophenol monooxygenation to complement the characterization of NAC (bio)degradation pathways by compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA). Because of the large diversity of enzymes catalyzing monooxygenations, we studied the combined C and N isotope fractionation and the corre...
Optically stimulated luminescence characteristics of BeO nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method
ALTUNAL, VOLKAN; YEĞİNGİL, ZEHRA; TÜKEN, TUNÇ; Depci, T.; ÖZDEMİR, ALİ CAN; Guckan, V.; Nur, N.; Kurt, K.; Bulur, Enver (2018-11-01)
Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) properties of the sol-gel synthesized nano-powders of Beryllium Oxide (BeO) were investigated. Luminescence properties of BeO nanoparticles are dependent on the crystal structure, particle size, and morphology and therefore strongly dependent on the way of synthesis, thus the preparation was modified to enhance the OSL signal from the material. Structural, thermal and morphological properties of BeO in nanopowder and pellet forms were studied using X-Ray Diffraction (...
Electrochromic properties of a soluble conducting polymer of 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole
Tarkuc, S.; Sahmetlioglu, E.; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Akhmedov, I. M.; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-20)
In this study, synthesis of a thiophene functionalized monomer, 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole (SNBS) was achieved. A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical polymerization. The polymer synthesized via chemical oxidative method was soluble in organic solvents and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 and C-13 NMR) spectroscopy. The average molecular weight of the chemically synthesized polymer was determined by gel permeation chromatography (G...
Effect of thermal neutron irradiation in boron-doped melt-textured YBCO superconductors
Topal, U; Dorosinskii, L; Ozkan, H; Yavuz, H (Elsevier BV, 2003-05-01)
Y1.6Ba2.3Cu3.3Ox superconductors with different amounts of boron doping have been synthesized using the MPMG technique. Undoped and boron-doped samples were irradiated with thermal neutrons to study the effect of defects produced by the fission reaction, B(n,alpha)Li, on the pinning and the critical current. We observed that the pinning and the critical current density were improved as a result of thermal neutron irradiation. This improvement was slightly stronger for the boron-doped samples compared to the...
