Channel phase and data estimation in slowly fading frequency nonselective channels
Zeydan, Engin; Demirbaş, Kerim; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
In coherent receivers, the effect of the multipath fading channel on the transmitted signal must be estimated to recover the transmitted data. In this thesis, the channel phase and data estimation problems are investigated in a transmitted data sequence when the channel is modeled as slowly fading, frequency non-selective channel. Channel phase estimation in a transmitted data sequence is investigated and data estimation is obtained in a symbol-by-symbol MAP receiver that is designed for minimum symbol erro...
CHANNEL DETECTION AND TRACKING FROM LIDAR DATA IN COMPLICATED TERRAIN
Arghavanian, Azar; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2022-2-04)
Efficient management of water resources is of great importance regarding ever increasing population and water droughts related to climate change. Drainage networks are important geomorphologic and hydrologic features which significantly control runoff generation. Recently, it has been feasible to monitor the earth’s surface and natural phenomena with the aid of remote sensing techniques. However, very high spatial resolution is needed for monitoring small waterways and knowledge of accurate drainage pattern...
Phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator design and fabrication for receiver systems
Köksal, Remzi; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
Oscillators play an important role in transmitters and receivers. In these systems, stable frequency source and low phase noise are critical for system performance. In radio frequencies, phase locked dielectric resonator oscillators are one of the best options in terms of cost, dimension, and performance. These oscillators are widely used in systems such as RADAR, electronic warfare, and communication. In this thesis, design methodology of phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator is given, an oscillator...

Broadband terahertz modulators using self-gated graphene capacitors
Kakenov, Nurbek; Balci, Osman; Polat, Emre O.; Altan, Hakan; KOCABAŞ, COŞKUN (2015-09-01)
We demonstrate a terahertz intensity modulator using a graphene supercapacitor which consists of two large-area graphene electrodes and an electrolyte medium. The mutual electrolyte gating between the graphene electrodes provides very efficient electrostatic doping with Fermi energies of 1 eV and a charge density of 8 x 10(13) cm(-2). We show that the graphene supercapacitor yields more than 50% modulation between 0.1 and 1.4 THz with operation voltages less than 3 V. The low insertion losses, high modulati...
