The energetic and structural characteristics of atomic ordering processes in Fe-0.5(Al1-nXn)(0.5) intermetallics have been qualitatively analyzed based on the statistico-thermodynamical theory of ordering by means of a quasi-chemical method combined with electronic theory in the pseudopotential approximation. The effects of ternary impurities on order-disorder phase transformation temperature and the characteristics of atomic short-range order in Fe-Al type intermetallics have been calculated. Impurity elements in Fe-0.5(Al1-nXn)(0.5) where X = Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, Ti, Si, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Re, Mo or W, are considered up to 1 at.% concentration. The results of the calculation indicate that the impurity elements, X, with regard to their lattice site occupancy characteristics (SRO) can be divided into two groups; X-1 = Ni, Co, Mn or Cr element atoms substitute mainly for Al sublattice sites, whereas Xii = Ti, Si, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Re, Mo or W element atoms substitute preferentially for Fe sublattice sites in Fe-0.5(Al1-nXn)(0.5) intermetallics. It has been found that the absolute values of partial ordering energies of the WAl-X (R-1) and WFe-X(R-1) have a profound effect on the order-disorder transition temperature of Fe-0.5(Al1-nXn)(0.5) alloys that would either increase or remain unchanged depending on the type and content of the ternary substitutional alloying elements. The impurities X = Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Re, Mo or W which are preferentially distributed Fe sublattice sites are more effective in increasing order-disorder transition temperature in Fe-Al(B2) intermetallics. The results of the present calculation are in good qualitative agreement with experimental observation for most of the third component impurity elements X in Fe-0.5(Al1-nXn)(0.5) intermetallics. Effect of lithium doping on the properties of Tl-based superconductors
Kayed, TS; Ozkan, H; Hasanlı, Nızamı (IOP Publishing, 2001-09-01)
The effects of lithium doping on the formation and properties of the T1-based superconductors have been studied. Lithium atoms up to around 3 mol.% have been added to the oxides of nominal composition Tl1.8Ba2Ca2.2Cu3Ox, and the usual solid-state reaction method has been applied. Lithium additions in the range 0.23-0.29 mol.% increase the fraction of the Tl-2223 phase and significantly improve the critical temperature of the samples. Higher amounts of lithium additions diminish the Tl-2223 phase, reduce the...
Effect of vanadium on atomic ordering characteristics and anti-phase boundary energies of B2-FeCo alloys
AYKOL, Muratahan; Mehrabov, Amdulla; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat (Elsevier BV, 2010-05-01)
Effect of V on the energetical and structural characteristics of atomic ordering processes of B2-FeCo intermetallics have been investigated via electronic theory of multi-component alloys combined with Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. Emphasis has been placed on the variation of anti-phase boundary (APB) energies with V content and temperature to establish a relationship between ductility and atomic ordering characteristics of (FeCo)(100-x)V(x) (x = 0-5 at%) alloys. It was shown that APB energies are highly af...
Effect of swaging on microstructure and tensile properties of W-Ni-Fe alloys
DURLU, NURİ; Caliskan, N. Kaan; Bor, Sakir (Elsevier BV, 2014-01-01)
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of swaging on the microstructure and tensile properties of high density two phase alloys 90W-7Ni-3Fe and 93W-4.9Ni-2.1Fe. Samples were liquid phase sintered under hydrogen and argon at 1480 degrees C for 30 min and then 15% cold rotary swaged. Measurement of microstructural parameters in the sintered and swaged samples showed that swaging slightly increased tungsten grain size in the longitudinal direction and slightly decreased tungsten grain size i...
THE EFFECT OF A 3RD COMPONENT IMPURITY-C ON THE HEAT-CAPACITY OF A3B-TYPE ORDERED ALLOYS
Mehrabov, Amdulla; MATYSINA, ZA (Wiley, 1989-12-01)
For the first time theoretical (in terms of the classical theory of ordering) and experimental (with the adiabatic calorimeter method) investigations are made of the effect of a third component impurity C on the heat capacity of A3B‐type ordered alloys with FCC structure. The effect of the impurities Mn, Cr, Mo, or W on the heat capacity of Ni3Fe alloys is analysed as an example. The comparison of the theoretical results with the experimental data shows good qualitative agreement.
Effects of anisotropy of ferrite coating on the radiation characteristics of a cylindrical conductor excited by elementary sources
Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (Informa UK Limited, 1998-01-01)
In this paper, radiation characteristics of an arbitrarily oriented source in an anisotropic multilayered cylindrical structure are investigated by using the state transition matrix approach. Full wave transversal field equations in spectral domain are derived for anisotropic medium in cylindrical coordinates. These expressions are formed into a set of linear first order differential equations. The solution at each layer is expressed in terms of the state transition matrices which are evaluated numerically....
