We examine here our spectroscopic modification of the Pippard relation which is a linear variation of the thermal expansivity alpha(p) with the frequency shifts (1/nu)(partial derivative nu/partial derivative p)(T) close to the melting point in ammonia solid II. For this we use our calculated frequencies for the Raman mode of nu (51 cm(-1)) in ammonia solid II for the pressures of 3.65, 5.02 and 6.57 kbars. We establish this linearity between alpha(p) and (I/nu)(partial derivative nu/partial derivative(p))(T) for the pressures studied in ammonia solid II close to the melting point. The observed behaviour of ammonia solid II is explained in terms of our spectroscopic relation given here.

Analysis of the Raman intensities near the phase transitions in ammonium halides
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2008-12-01)
This study concentrates on the temperature dependence of the Raman intensities for the lattice modes in ammonium halides (NH4Cl and NH4Br) close to phase transitions, We predict their intensities using the results of a shell model for the Raman polarizability within the framework of an Ising pseudospin-phonon coupled model.
Temperature and pressure dependence of the mode Gruneisen parameters close to the melting point in hexagonal ice
Karacali, H.; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-01)
We reexamine the Pippard relations in this study by relating the specific heat C-P to the Raman frequency shifts 1/v(partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(P) and the thermal expansivity alpha(p) to the 1/v(partial derivative v/partial derivative P)(T), when the mode Gruneisen parameter depends on the temperature and pressure close to the melting point in hexagonal ice. From linear relations between them, the values of the slope dP/dT are deduced in this crystal.
The use of concomitant elements to evaluate an Ar-N-2 mixed-gas plasma by electrothermal vaporization inductively coupled plasma orthogonal time-of-flight mass spectrometry
Balsanek, William J.; Ertaş, Gülay; Holcombe, James A. (Elsevier BV, 2006-06-01)
The performance of an Ar-N-2 mixed-gas plasma was compared to an At plasma using electrothermal vaporization as a sample introduction source to an inductively coupled plasma orthogonal time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The effect of sample matrices NaNO3 and Pd(NO3)(2) on a multi-element solution was investigated in mass amounts ranging from 0.1 to 5 mu g of the metal matrix (e.g., Na and Pd). Addition of 2% N-2 to the outer plasma gas of an Ar plasma reduced signal suppressions observed in the presence of ...
Specific heat and frequency shifts for the translational modes in ammonia solid I close to phase transition
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2007-07-01)
The specific heat C-p is correlated to the frequency shifts (1/v)(partial derivative v/partial derivative T)(p) in ammonia solid I close to the melting point. Our calculated Raman frequencies for the translational modes of v(T) (100 cm(-1)) and v(T) (130 cm(-1)), are used for this correlation for the pressures of 0, 1.93 and 3.07 kbar in this crystalline system. We obtain that the specific heat varied linearly with the frequency shifts for those pressures studied and values of the slope dP(m)/dT were extrac...
Linear variations of the thermodynamic quantities in the liquid phase of carbon tetrachloride close to the melting point
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2008-03-15)
We verify here a linear variation of the specific heat C-p with the thermal expansivity alpha(p) and also a linear variation of alpha(p) with the isothermal compressibility K-T for the liquid phase of carbon tetrachloride close to the melting point.
