Risk analysis based on spatial analysis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer with respect to provinces in Turkey
Çiftçi, Sezgin; Başbuğ Erkan, Berna Burçak; Düzgün, H. Şebnem; Department of Actuarial Sciences (2012)
The goal of this thesis is to analyze and understand the risks of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer with respect to the provinces of Turkey according to the results of spatial analysis. The insurance sector of the country needs that kind of analysis to make more precise pricing in insurance products. Especially in health and life insurance products, morbidities like COPD and lung cancer may a ect the life expectancy as much as the premiums. COPD and lung cancer prevalence may exhi...
Association analysis of Glutathione S-transferase omega-1 and omega-2 genetic polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in a Turkish population
Bilgin, Esra; Can Demirdöğen, Birsen; Ozcelik, Aysun Turkanoglu; Demirkaya, Seref; Adalı, Orhan (Informa UK Limited, 2019-01-01)
Objectives: Oxidative stress is a known risk factor for the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, the main cause of ischemic stroke. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) omega-1 and omega-2, members of phase II enzymes, play a role in the antioxidant system. The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), C419A and A424G in GST omega genes can cause a decrease in enzyme activity. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible association between these polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in a Turkish population.
Particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10-2.5, and PM10) and children's hospital admissions for asthma and respiratory diseases: A bidirectional case-crossover study
TECER, LOKMAN HAKAN; Alagha, Omar; KARACA, FERHAT; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Eldes, Nilufer (2008-01-01)
Epidemiological studies reported adverse effects of air pollution on the prevalence of respiratory diseases in children. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between air pollution and admissions for asthma and other respiratory diseases among children who were younger than 15 yr of age. The study used data on respiratory hospital admissions and air pollutant concentrations, including thoracic particulate matter (PM10), fine (PM2.5), and coarse (PM10-2.5) particulate matter in Zonguldak, ...
Spatial Analysis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD on the Basis of Provinces in Turkey with regards to Actuarial Risk Assessment
Çiftçi, Sezgin; Düzgün, Hafize Şebnem; Başbuğ Erkan, Berna Burçak (2012-10-06)
The goal of this thesis is to analyze and understand the risks of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) with respect to the provinces of Turkey according to the results of spatial analysis. The insurance sector of the country needs that kind of analysis to make more precise pricing in insurance products. Especially in health and life insurance products, morbidities like COPD may affect the life expectancy as much as the premiums. COPD prevalence may exhibit spatial autocorrelation due to spatial simil...
Modeling comorbidity of chronic diseases using coupled hidden Markov model with bivariate discrete copula
Oflaz, Zarina; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; Kestel, Sevtap Ayşe (2023-1-01)
A range of chronic diseases have a significant influence on each other and share common risk factors. Comorbidity, which shows the existence of two or more diseases interacting or triggering each other, is an important measure for actuarial valuations. The main proposal of the study is to model parallel interacting processes describing two or more chronic diseases by a combination of hidden Markov theory and copula function. This study introduces a coupled hidden Markov model with the bivariate discrete cop...
