A detailed study of geopolymeric reaction products and mechanical properties of geopolymer pastes prepared with natural zeolite has been investigated by means of compressive strength, XRD and SEM/EDX analysis. Sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions are used as an alkaline activator. The results of the investigation show that the activator ratio plays an important role on the mechanical development of geopolymer pastes. The geopolymeric gel and CSH phase with a low Ca/Si ratio are found as the main reaction product. The increased intensity of CSH phase has a significant effect on the improvement of the compressive strength. Decreased intensity of clinoptilolite and totally consumed clay mineral upon geopolymerization proves the involvement of the aluminosilicate phases in the geopolymeric reaction. The existence of sodium and increment of Si/Al ratio with respect to original zeolitic tuff were detected. The results also show that the investigated natural zeolite, which is emerged as an environmentally friendly, low-cost material, is suitable for the production of geopolymer cement.

Calorific value determination of coals by DTA and ASTM methods. Comparative study
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2001-08-20)
This research comprises the applicability of complex thermal analysis technique (TG/DTG, DTA) in the determination of calorific values of coals of different origin. The calorific values, those obtained by thermal analysis are compared with an adiabatic bomb calorimeter by the standard ASTM method, and the results are discussed.
Wetting behavior and reaction layer formation in C/SiC composite-titanium alloy joints
Saltik, Simge; ESEN, ZİYA; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (2021-09-01)
The present study investigates the effect of brazing parameters on reaction layer formation, and mechanical properties of C/SiC composite-Ti6Al4V alloy joints produced by brazing technique. The wetting mechanism of the C/SiC composite surface by the Ag-Cu-Ti-based active brazing filler alloy has also been studied and correlated with the reaction layer formation.
SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF PYROLYSIS PRODUCTS OF SOME POLYSTYRENES
ORHAN, BO; YALCIN, T; SUZER, S (1992-03-01)
An investigation of the pyrolysis products of some polystyrenes prepared by different methods is performed by Mass and IR spectroscopic techniques over the temperature range 30-450-degrees-C. Main pyrolysis product of the polystyrene samples obtained by a free radical initiator and gamma-rays is found to be styrene; whereas, toluene, ethylene and methane are observed as the pyrolysis products of plasma initiated polystyrene. The results demonstrate the dependence of pyrolysis products on polymer structure.
Sorption Efficiency of Chitosan Nanofibers toward Metal Ions at Low Concentrations
Horzum, Nesrin; Boyacı, Ezel; Eroglu, Ahmet E.; Shahwan, Talal; Demir, Mustafa M. (2010-12-01)
Chitosan fibers showing narrow diameter distribution with a mean of 42 nm were produced by electrospinning and utilized for the sorption of Fe(III), Cu(II), Ag(I), and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The ion concentrations in the supernatant solutions were determined using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The filtration efficiency of the fibers toward these ions was studied by both batch and microcolumn methods. High efficiency in sorption of the metal ions was obtained in the both...
Polylactide/organically modified montmorillonite composite fibers
Ozdemir, Esra; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2017-03-01)
Direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique was applied to investigate the characteristics of polylactide, (PLA) nanofibers containing organically modified montmorillonites, Cloisite 15A, (C15A) Cloisite 20A, (C20A) and Cloisite 30B, (GOB) prepared by electrospinning. As the amount of Cloisite present in the composites was increased, the fiber diameters became slightly narrower compared to neat PLA fiber due to the presence of quaternary ammonium salt as organic modifier increasing electrical conductivity....
