The present study investigates the effect of brazing parameters on reaction layer formation, and mechanical properties of C/SiC composite-Ti6Al4V alloy joints produced by brazing technique. The wetting mechanism of the C/SiC composite surface by the Ag-Cu-Ti-based active brazing filler alloy has also been studied and correlated with the reaction layer formation.

Transient dynamic response of viscoelastic cylinders enclosed in filament wound cylindrical composites
Şen, Özge; Turhan, Doğan; Department of Engineering Sciences (2005)
In this study, transient dynamic response of viscoelastic cylinders enclosed in filament wound cylindrical composites is investigated. Thermal effects, in addition to mechanical effects, are taken into consideration. A generalized thermoelasticity theory which incorporates the temperature rate among the constitutive variables and is referred to as temperature-rate dependent thermoelasticity theory is employed. This theory predicts finite heat propagation speeds. The body considered in this thesis consists o...
FREE VIBRATION CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPOSITE SHELLS OF REVOLUTION WITH VARIABLE STIFFNESS COEFFICIENTS
Kayran, Altan (2008-07-09)
In the present study, the effect of initial winding angle, and the starting edge of the winding operation on the variation of the thickness, stiffness coefficients and undamped free vibration characteristics of filament wound composite shells of revolution are investigated. Filaments are assumed to be placed along the geodesic fiber path on the surface of the shell of revolution resulting in the variation of the stiffness coefficients and thickness along the axis of the composite shell of revolution with ge...
End effect evaluation in rheological measurement of drilling fluids using Coutte coaxial cylinder viscometer
Gücüyener, I. Hakki; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Batmaz, Taner (2002-05-01)
This paper demonstrates the order of influence of end effects on the application of a theory to determine and correct the end effects in Couette coaxial cylinder rotational viscometers, which are commonly used for the rheological evaluation of drilling fluids. It is found that higher shear stresses are measured due to end effects and, consequently, this error bearing shear stress-shear rate data leads to unreliable predictions of the rheological parameters. Evaluation of the shear stress-shear rate data obt...
Experimental investigation of particle filtration in compression resin transfer molding of advanced composites
Aydil Dalkıran, Tuğçe; Erdal Erdoğmuş, Merve; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
With the inclusion of particle fillers in advanced continuous fiber reinforced composites, issues such as impregnation with increased viscosity of the injected resin leading to high process pressures and possible nonhomogeneous/directional composite properties due to filtering of filler particles necessitate the study of the relations between processing parameters and the resulting particle distributions. In this study, the particle-resin interaction during compression resin transfer molding (CRTM) and resi...
Corrosion behaviours of Ti6Al4V-Mg/Mg-Alloy composites

The effect of coupling of unalloyed Mg and Mg-alloys (AZ91 and WE43) with Ti6Al4V alloy on corrosion and degradation behaviours of produced composites has been investigated in simulated body fluid (SBF) by hydrogen evolution, and surface and electrochemical characterization techniques. Combining of unalloyed Mg with Ti6Al4V intensified galvanic corrosion and catastrophic failure occurred by initiation of microcracks formed by sudden hydrogen gas evolution. In contrast to other composites, Ti6Al4V-AZ91 compo...
