This research comprises the applicability of complex thermal analysis technique (TG/DTG, DTA) in the determination of calorific values of coals of different origin. The calorific values, those obtained by thermal analysis are compared with an adiabatic bomb calorimeter by the standard ASTM method, and the results are discussed.

Kinetic analysis of in situ combustion processes with thermogravimetric and differential thermogravimetric analysis and reaction tube experiments
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (1995-01-01)
This research comprises the determination of kinetic parameters of in situ combustion processes by reaction tube and thermal (thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)/differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTGA)) experiments. A previously developed laboratory model and a Du Pont 9900 thermalanalyzer unit were used to run the experiments. Three reaction regions for combustion of crude oil in porous media were observed in the reaction tube and TGA/DTGA experiments and are defined as low temperature oxidation, fuel ...
Thermal behavior and kinetics of crude oils at low heating rates by differential scanning calorimeter
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2012-04-01)
The objective of this research was to investigate thermal behavior and kinetics of different origin crude oils in limestone matrix by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) at low heating rates. In DSC experiments, three distinct reaction regions were identified in all of the crude oil + limestone mixtures known as low temperature oxidation (LTO), fuel deposition (FD) and high temperature oxidation (HTO) respectively. Kinetic analysis of the crude oil samples was determined by different models known as AST...
Solidification and crystallization behaviour of bulk glass forming alloys
Aybar, Sultan; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
The aim of the study was to investigate the crystallization kinetics and solidification behaviour of Fe60Co8Mo5Zr10W2B15 bulk glass forming alloy. The solidification behaviour in near-equilibrium and non-equilibrium cooling conditions was studied. The eutectic and peritectic reactions were found to exist in the solidification sequence of the alloy. The bulk metallic glass formation was achieved by using two methods: quenching from the liquid state and quenching from the semi-state. Scanning electron microsc...
Pyrolysis analysis and kinetics of crude oils
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (1998-01-01)
This research presents the results of an experimental study on the determination of pyrolysis behaviour and kinetics of six crude oils by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG/DTG). Crude oil pyrolysis indicated two main temperature ranges where loss of mass was observed. The first region between ambient to 400 degrees C was distillation. The second region between 400 and 600 degrees C was visbreaking and thermal cracking. Arrhenius-type kinetic model is used to determine the kine...
SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF PYROLYSIS PRODUCTS OF SOME POLYSTYRENES
ORHAN, BO; YALCIN, T; SUZER, S (1992-03-01)
An investigation of the pyrolysis products of some polystyrenes prepared by different methods is performed by Mass and IR spectroscopic techniques over the temperature range 30-450-degrees-C. Main pyrolysis product of the polystyrene samples obtained by a free radical initiator and gamma-rays is found to be styrene; whereas, toluene, ethylene and methane are observed as the pyrolysis products of plasma initiated polystyrene. The results demonstrate the dependence of pyrolysis products on polymer structure.
