The Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian rock units in the Hadim area, central Taurides, Turkey, are biostratigraphically divided into eleven fusulinoidean zones in ascending order: the Protriticites variabilis, Montiparus umhonoplicatus and Schwageriniformis schwageriniformis Zones in the Kasimovian; the Jigulites aff. formosus, Daixina asiatica and Rugosofusulina sp. A Zones in the Gzhelian; the Paraschwagerina sp. and Dutkevichia complicata Zones in the Asselian; the Paraschwagerina pseudondra and Robilstoschwagerina nucleolata Zones in the Sakmarian; and the Dunbarula? sp. Zone of possible Artinskian age, according to the geochronologic calibration by fusulinoideans. Basal Kasimovian strata, Kasimovian-Gzhelian boundary strata and lower Asselian strata are missing, due to erosion and/or nondeposition, based on faunal analysis of 61 species in 31 genera. Lithologies and fossils suggest that deposition of the studied rock units occurred under shallow, high energy, tropical coastal conditions, influenced by glacioeustatic sea level fluctuations. Early groups of schwagerinids dispersed rapidly, so that the Kasimovian faunas of the Taurides have both European and Central Asian affinities. Faunal similarity between the Hadim area and stratotype regions of the Moscow Basin and the Southern Urals declined gradually in Gzhelian time, declined more rapidly in the Asselian, and reached its low point in the Sakmarian. Many common species occur in the Hadim area and Central Asia (southern Fergana and southwest Darvas), the eastern Mediterranean Sea regions (Slovenia, Croatia, Chios Island, and other localities of Turkey), and the Carnic Alps, especially in the Sakmarian fauna containing Robustoschivagerina, Pseudoschwagerina, Paraschwagerina, Quasifusulina, Eoparafusulina and Daravasites.

Late Paleocene Orthophragminae (foraminfera) from the Haymana-Polatli Basin, central Turkey) and description of a new taxon, Orbitoclypeus haymanaensis
Özcan, Ercan; Sirel, Ercüment; Altıner, Sevinç; Çolakoğlu, Sinan (GeoScienceWorld, 2001-12-01)
A transgressive shallow-marine succession suggested as a reference-section for early Thanetian by the 'Early Paleogene working group' (IGCP 286) was studied for its orthophragminid foraminifera from Haymana-Polath Basin in central Anatolia. Orthophragminae, closely associated with Assilina yvettae and Operculina heberti, have been identified in a friable clastic-carbonate sequence which contains Glomalveolina in its different horizons. Basinal sediments with planktonic taxa overlie the shallow-water deposit...
Late Holocene deep-sea benthic foraminifera from the Sea of Marmara
Alavi, Seyed Naeim (Elsevier BV, 1988-10)
The benthic foraminiferal assemblages of two cores from the late-Holocene, organic-carbon-rich and carbonate-poor, deep-sea sediments of the eastern depression of the Sea of Marmara have been studied. They were deposited under high level of primary productivity and poorly oxygenated bottom-water conditions; they show low diversity and are dominated by a group of species adapted to an infaunal life style with wide bathymetric distribution (ca. 70–2000 m) in the Mediterranean Sea. Oxygen deficiency down to ab...
Cyclic palaeokarst surfaces in Aptian peritidal carbonate successions (Taurides, southwest Turkey): internal structure and response to mid-Aptian sea-level fall
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Demir (Elsevier BV, 2006-12-01)
The sedimentology and cyclic stratigraphy of palaeokarst structures in Aptian peritidal carbonate successions are interpreted using field and laboratory microfacies analyses of closely spaced samples from measured outcrop stratigraphic sections in southwest Turkey. Cycles displaying shallowing-upward metre-scale cyclicity are generally composed of lime mudstones/wackestones/packestones at the bottom and stromatolites or lime mudstones with charophytes and ostracods at the top. Subaerial exposure structures ...
Quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminifera across the Cretaceous-Paleogene transition and observations on the extinction horizon, Haymana Basin, Turkey
Karabeyoğlu, Uygar; Altıner, Sevinç; Altıner, Demir (Elsevier BV, 2019-12-01)
The Haymana Basin, Turkey, hosts complete record of sedimentation across the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) boundary. To examine the K-Pg boundary transition and delineate the bioevents, two consecutive sections (UH and UKHB) were measured and sampled at high resolution. Three biozones were established: Plummerita hantkeninoides, P0 and P alpha. A detailed quantitative study on planktonic foraminifera was carried out for the P. hantkeninoides and the P0 zones for 63 150 mu m and >150 mu m size fractions. Resul...
The Cretaceous Mardin Group carbonates in southeast Turkey: Lithostratigraphy, foraminiferal biostratigraphy, microfacies and sequence stratigraphic evolution
Ozkan, Recep; Altıner, Demir (Elsevier BV, 2019-06-01)
The Mardin Group strata, as a product of the Cretaceous carbonate platform developed in the northern margin of the Arabian Platform, consists of a thick sedimentary sequence composed mostly of carbonates with subordinate clastic sediments. In this study, three stratigraphic sections Turkoglu, Derik and Inisdere addressing this sequence have been investigated in terms of lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy combined with microfacies analysis and sequence stratigraphic interpretation. A comprehensive examina...
