This study aimed to investigate the relationship among students' prior knowledge, meaningful learning orientation (MLO), reasoning ability (RA) and achievement in human circulatory system in learning cycle (LC) and traditional classrooms (TC). In this study, Human Circulatory System Achievement Test was applied twice as pre-test and after treatment period as a post-test to both experimental and control groups. Two teachers and four classes and total of 60 11th grade students were participated in this em study. Pearson correlation analysis results revealed that in LC, basically, students' understanding of human circulatory system (HCS) was related with their relevant prior knowledge and RA. However, in TC, basically students' understanding of HCS was related with their MLO. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Conceptual understanding of acids and bases concepts and motivation to learn chemistry
DİNDAR, AYLA ÇETİN; Geban, Ömer (2017-01-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 5E learning cycle model oriented instruction (LCMI) on 11th-grade students' conceptual understanding of acids and bases concepts and student motivation to learn chemistry. The study, which lasted for 7 weeks, involved two groups: An experimental group (LCMI) and a control group (the traditional teacher-centered instruction [TTCI]). Based on multivariate analysis of covariance results, the LCMI students outperformed the TTCI students in terms of conc...
Relations between classroom teachers attitudes toward change, perceptions of "constructivist" curriculum change and implementation of constructivist teaching and learning activities in class at primary school level
Kasapoğlu, Koray; Yıldırım, Ali; Department of Educational Sciences (2010)
This study aimed at determining whether classroom teachers‘ attitudes toward change correlate with their perceptions of constructivist curriculum change and implementation of constructivist teaching and learning activities in class at primary school level. Through a questionnaire, data were collected from 236 classroom teachers teaching in all public primary schools in the city center of Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. Demographical data of the participants, their attitudes toward change, perceptions of constructiv...
Effectiveness of 5E learning cycle model on hihg school students' understanding of solubility equilibrium concept
Aydemir, Nurdane; Geban, Ömer; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2012)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of instruction based on 5E learning cycle model (LCI) compared to Traditional Instruction (TI) and gender on 11th grade students’ understanding of solubility equilibrium concept, students’ perceived motivation, use of learning strategies, and attitudes towards chemistry. There were 53 students in the experimental group instructed by the LCI and 56 students in the control group instructed by the TI. Solution Concept Test and Science Process Skills Test ...
