Herein, alternating donor-acceptor type benzodithiophene and benzotriazole bearing copolymers were synthesized and thieno[3,2-b] thiophene and furan units were incorporated as pi-bridges. The application of these polymers for electrochromic and photovoltaic studies were performed. Spectroelectrochemical studies illustrate that both polymers showed multichromic behavior due to tailoring of polaron bands in visible region. Photovoltaic properties of P2 were performed by conventional device structure. The best performance device based on P2: PC71BM (1: 3, w/w) exhibited the power conversion efficiency of 2.98%, with V-oc of 0.74 V, J(sc) of 6.31 mA/cm(2), and FF of 64%. The carrier mobility of the P2: PC71BM was calculated as 1.37 x 10- 3 cm(2)/V.s via space-charge-limited current method. (C) 2017 The Electrochemical Society.

Syntheses and Characterization of Benzotriazole, Thienopyrroledione, and Benzodithiophene Containing Conjugated Random Terpolymers for Organic Solar Cells
Goksu, Kardelen; Hizalan, Gonul; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; Hacioglu, Serife Ozdemir; Cevher, Sevki Can; Akrema, Akrema; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (The Electrochemical Society, 2019-11-20)
Two random terpolymers bearing alkoxy-benzodithiophene as an electron-rich unit and N-octylthieno[3,4,c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) as an electron deficient group with thiophene and selenophene pi bridges, were synthesized and characterized. Electrochemical, optical properties of the polymers were analyzed to get an insight on the effect of different p bridges. Photovoltaic performances of the polymers were investigated with a conventional device architecture. PBTS, PBTSe based polymer solar cells (PSCs) exhibi...
Propylenedioxy and Benzimidazole Based Electrochromic Polymers
Cansu-Ergun, E. G.; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; CİHANER, ATİLLA (The Electrochemical Society, 2016-01-01)
In this study, three acceptor units were synthesized by substituting cyclohexane, cycloheptane and cyclooctane rings at 2-C position of benzimidazole. These acceptor units were coupled with dihexyl substituted 3,4-propylenedioxythiophene (PRODOT-C6) donor segments and the resulting donor-acceptor-donor monomers were polymerized via potentiostatic and potentiodynamic methods to obtain their corresponding conjugated polymers (CP). Monomers and their polymers were investigated in terms of the ring size of the ...
Syntheses and Electrochemical Characterization of Low Oxidation Potential Nitrogen Analogs of Pedot as Electrochromic Materials
Hacioglu, Serife O.; Yigit, Deniz; Ermis, Emel; Soylemez, Saniye; GÜLLÜ, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (The Electrochemical Society, 2016-01-01)
In this study, the electropolymerization of ethyl andmethyl substituted asymmetrical nitrogen analogs of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (OEt and OMe) were synthesized, characterized and their electrochemical properties were investigated. Both polymers (POEt and POMe) were synthesized electrochemically and characterized using spectroelectrochemical technique to determine optical changes of the resulting polymer films. Electrochemical studies demonstrated that these polymers exhibited a significantly low oxidatio...
Investigation of Fluorine Atom Effect on Benzothiadiazole Acceptor Unit in Donor Acceptor Donor Systems
Çakal, Deniz; Akdağ, Akın; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (The Electrochemical Society, 2019-07-12)
Synthesis of two new pi-conjugated monomers containing fluorine substituted benzothiadiazoles as acceptor units and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) as donor unit was accomplished by facilitating Stille cross-coupling reactions (4,7-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4] dioxin-5-yl)-5-fluorobenzo[c][1,2,5] thiadiazole (E2BTD-F) and 4,7-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno [3,4-b][1,4] dioxin-5-yl)-5,6-difluorobenzo[c][1,2,5] thiadiazole (E2BTD-2F)). NMR and HRMS spectra of newly synthesized compounds are in agreement with th...
Electrochemical Behavior of Hydrazine Borane in Methanol Solution
Ozhava, Derya; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Özkar, Saim (The Electrochemical Society, 2014-01-01)
Electrochemical behavior of hydrazine borane (HB) was investigated on gold electrode in 0.5 M LiClO4 solution in methanol using cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and chronoamperometry. Two irreversible peaks at 164 and 530 mV are attributed to direct electro-oxidation of HB on gold electrode in methanol. Both EIS results and CV data at different scan rates indicate a diffusion controlled electron transfer reaction. Furthermore, the Tafel slope (b = 0.191 V) and charge transfer...
