Performance Estimation of Water Flooding in Oil Recovery

2009-01-01
In this research, a petroleum field (Field-A) having approximately 23.2 API gravity oil in a carbonate formation from southeast Turkey was studied. Field-A was put on production in 1989 and produced till now, which is very close to its economic lifetime. Thus, it was considered as a candidate for enhanced oil recovery and water injection. Reservoir rock and fluid data were first interpreted with available well logging, core, and drill stem test data. The data were then merged into CMG/STARS simulator. A history matching study was done with production data to verify the results of the simulator with field data. After obtaining a good match, the different scenarios were realized by using the simulator.

Application of different EOR techniques for the energy and recovery of Ashal'cha oil field
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Nurgaliev, Danis K. (Informa UK Limited, 2018-01-01)
In this research, utilizing the reservoir and produced oil data, different enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques known as in-situ combustion, CO2 flooding, and steam flooding were applied for Ashal'cha oil field in Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. For this purpose, In-Situ Combustion Predictive Model (ICPM), CO2 Miscible Flood Predictive Model (CO2PM) and Steam-flood Predictive Model (SFPM) are used. In addition to oil recovery, economic analysis of the discussed EOR applications was also conducted. By using...
Permeability reduction due to formation damage by drilling fluids
Iscan, A.G.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Bagci, A.S. (Informa UK Limited, 2007-01-01)
In this study, investigation of permeability reduction due to formation damage by invaded drilling fluids of sandstone-based, lime-containing core plugs from the southeastern region of Turkey were studied. The tests were performed by using dynamic filtration set-up that was constructed at the laboratory. In the experiments, nine core plugs of 7 cm length and 3.81 cm (1.5 in) diameter were used. Three different drilling fluid types using two different polymers were prepared and tests were made at three diffe...
Economical Evaluation of an Oil Field Reservoir
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2011-01-01)
In this study, economical evaluation of an oil field reservoir was performed using software. The software used in this study consists of different sub-programs to determine recoverable oil, recovery factor, initial and final productions, production rates, and original oil and gas in place for different types of reservoirs. Recovery efficiency was found to be 29% for water drive and 4.78% for solution gas drive reservoirs. In decline curve analysis, initial and final production rates were obtained as 40 and ...
Geological Considerations for the Economic Evaluation of Turkish Oil Shale Deposits and Their Combustion-Pyrolysis Behavior
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
The oil shale deposits in Turkey are widely distributed in middle and western Anatolia. Turkish oil shales are of Palaeocene-Eocene and middle upper Miocene age. Current reserves of oil shales are approximately 2,220 million tons (total reserve) and mainly are located in Himmetoglu, Seyitomer, Beypazari, and Hatildag deposits. Some petrological, geochemical, Fisher Assay, and fluidized combustion tests are performed for these oil shale fields, and it was concluded that Himmetoglu oil shale is the most appro...
Diffusive and Convective Mechanisms during CO2 Sequestration in Aquifers
Ozgur, E.; Gumrah, F. (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
CO2 emissions originated from industrial sources can be captured, transported, and stored in depleted gas/oil fields and deep saline aquifers. The transport mechanisms, occurred during CO2 sequestration in deep saline aquifers, are examined in this study. After injecting CO2 until the tolerable pressure for the aquifer is reached, the wells are closed and CO2 is deposited as free gas and soluble gas in water under the sealing rock. During injection and waiting periods, the concentration profile of CO2 withi...
