As an initial part of a revisional study based on the genus Salvia L. (Lamiaceae), extensive field studies, herbarium and literature surveys have been conducted on the basis of the S. brachyantha (Bordz.) Pobed and S. modesta Boiss. in order to understand their taxonomic status. As a result of the present study, S. brachyantha and S. modesta are accepted as distinct species. Moreover, S. brachyantha subsp. tankutiana Bagherpour, Celep, Kahraman & Dogan subsp. nova is first described from central Anatolia, Turkey. The diagnostic morphological and micromorphological characters of S. brachyantha subsp. brachyantha, S. brachyantha subsp. tankutiana and S. modesta are discussed. Distribution, conservation status and photograph of the taxa are also given.

A taxonomic revision of Salvia euphratica sensu lato and its closely related species (sect. Hymenosphace, Lamiaceae) using multivariate analysis
Kahraman, Ahmet; CELEP, FERHAT; Doğan, Musa; Bagherpour, Safi (2010-01-01)
As an initial part of a revisional study based on the genus Salvia L. (Lamiaceae), extensive field studies, herbarium and literature surveys, and multivariate analysis have been conducted on the basis of the Salvia euphratica sensu lato (S. cerino-pruinosa, S. euphratica, S. leiocalycina, and S. pseudeuphratica) and its closely related species (S. kronenburgii and S. sericeo-tomentosa) in order to understand their taxonomic status. For the multivariate analysis, 35 OTUs (Operational Taxonomic Units) represe...
Salvia ekimiana (Lamiaceae), a new species from Turkey
Celep, Ferhat; Doğan, Musa (2010-03-10)
Salvia ekimiana F. Celep & Dogan sp. nova (Lamiaceae) is described and illustrated from Turkey. It is confined to Yozgat in central Anatolia where it grows in open Pinus sylvestris forest and alpine steppe. The diagnostic morphological characters from closely similar species are discussed.
Salvia marashica (Lamiaceae), a new species from Turkey
Ilcim, Ahrnet; Celep, Ferhat; Doğan, Musa (2009-02-27)
Salvia marashica A. ilcim, F. Celep & Dogan sp. nova (Lamiaceae) is described from Turkey and illustrated. It is confined to C6 Kahramanmaras in South Anatolia where it flowers early in the year and grows on rocky mountain slopes. The diagnostic morphological characteristics from closely similar species are discussed. Notes are also presented on its ecology and pollen characteristics along with scanning electron micrographs of the calyx hairs. A distribution map of the new and the similar species is also pr...
A cytomorphological study in some taxa of the genus Salvia L. (Lamiaceae)
MARTİN, ESRA; Cetin, Ozlem; Kahraman, Ahmet; Celep, Ferhat; Doğan, Musa (2011-07-01)
The taxa of the genus Salvia L. (Lamiaceae) used in this study were collected from their natural habitats in Turkey. In this paper, the number, size and morphology of somatic chromosomes of 22 Turkish taxa of Salvia, namely S. bracteata Banks & Sol., S. fruticosa Mill., S. huberi Hedge, S. hydrangea DC. ex Benth., S. nemorosa L. and S. pomifera L. (2n=14), S. adenocaulon P.H. Davis and S. aucheri Benth. subsp. canescens Boiss. & Heldr., (2n=18), S. argentea L., S. frigida Boiss., S. palestina Benth., S. poc...
Karyomorphological studies in seven taxa of the genus Salvia (Lamiaceae) in Turkey
MARTİN, ESRA; Altinordu, Fahim; Celep, Ferhat; KAHRAMAN, AHMET; Doğan, Musa (2015-03-01)
In this study, the karyotypes of mitotic chromosomes were determined of seven taxa of Salvia (Lamiaceae) collected from their natural habitats in Turkey: S. viridis (2n = 16), S. candidissima subsp. occidentalis (2n = 20), S. sclarea, S. ceratophylla, S. chionantha (2n = 22), S. viscosa and S. verticillata subsp. amasiaca (2n = 32). The karyotype formulae were 5m+3sm in S. viridis, 2M+5m+3sm in S. candidissima subsp. occidentalis, 1M+10m in S. sclarea, 8m+3sm in S. ceratophylla, 7m+4sm in S. chionantha, 9m+...
