An experimental study has been carried out to investigate Raman scattering spectra of GaS1-xSex solid solutions in which a one-dimensional localization of interlayer mode due to a disorder in the layer stacking was observed.

Effect of molecular and electronic structure on the light-harvesting properties of dye sensitizers
Mete, E.; Üner, Deniz; Cakmak, M.; Gulseren, O.; Ellialtoglu, S. (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2007-05-24)
The systematic trends in structural and electronic properties of perylenediimide (PDI)-derived dye molecules have been investigated by DFT calculations based on the projector-augmented wave (PAW) method including gradient-corrected exchange-correlation effects. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations have been performed to study the visible absorbance activity of these complexes. The effect of different ligands and halogen atoms attached to PDI were studied to characterize the light-ha...
Effects of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib on cholesterol containing distearoyl phosphatidylcholine membranes
Sade, Asli; Banerjee, Sreeparna; Severcan, Feride (2011-01-01)
The effects of different concentrations of celecoxib on the acyl chain order, dynamics and the hydration status of the head group and interfacial region of model membranes containing DSPC and cholesterol were investigated in detail using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Our results reveal that regardless of the presence of cholesterol, celecoxib is able to alter the physical properties of membranes. It exerts opposing effects on membrane order at high and low concentrations and decreases membrane fl...
Effect of clinker phase distribution within cement particles on properties of a hydrating cement paste
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (2013-01-01)
SEM/X-ray images of cements in the Virtual Cement and Concrete Testing Laboratory were analyzed and used in simulations to investigate the effect of spatial distribution of clinker phases within particles on hydration and resulting properties. Percentages of the clinker phases actually consumed in the total hydrated clinker at any time during hydration ('active phase content's) are different than those measured on the unreacted powder ('overall phase content's), which may weaken predictions of the overall r...
Effect of gramicidin S on the dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-glycerol thermotropic phase transition in DPPG/GS systems: A mathematical approach
Stan, Cristina; Cristescu, C. P.; Severcan, Feride; Dorohoi, Dana (Informa UK Limited, 2006-01-01)
We present a mathematical approach to the experimental data recorded via Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy regarding the influence of the concentration of the antimicrobial peptide gramicidin S (GS) on the thermotropic phase transition of the dipalmitoylphosphatidyl-glycerol (DPPG) lipid bilayer membrane in DPPG/GS systems. The model is based on the influence of the GS concentration on the parameters of a nonlinear damped oscillator, which models the CH2 symmetric stretching band.
Effects of anisotropic surface drift diffusion on the strained heteroepitaxial nanoislands subjected to electromigration stressing
Oğurtanı, Tarık; Celik, Aytac; ÖREN, ERSİN EMRE (2022-02-01)
A systematic study based on self-consistent dynamical simulations is presented for the morphological evolutionary behavior of an isolated thin Ge/Si nanoisland (quantum dot) on a rigid substrate exposed to electromigration forces. This morphological evolution is basically induced by the anisotropic surface drift diffusion, driven by the capillary forces, the lattice mismatch stresses, and the wetting potential. In this study, we have mainly focused on the size and shape development kinetics of quantum dots,...
