Characterization of the Karababa-C reservoir in the South Karakus oilfield, southeast Turkey

1998-12-01
The South Karakus oil field is located in southeast Turkey, and produces, from the Late Cretaceous Mardin Group, carbonate reservoirs consisting of the Karababa, Derdere, Sabunsuyu and Areban Formations. The Karababa Formation is divided into three members, of which the productive Karababa-C member, discussed here, is composed of shallow marine bioclastic mudstone to wackestone. It is affected by early to late diagenetic processes that caused modification of the original pore system by cementation, dissolution and fracturing. Two petrophysical-petrologic facies can be discriminated by principal component analysis, and linear, multiple and stepwise multiple regression analysis of petrophysical data. These correspond to vuggy-moldic porosity and microporosity dominated reservoirs.

Evaluation of ecological changes in lake hazar (Elazig, Turkey) using diatom-based paleolimnological techniques
Maraslioglu, Faruk; Soylu, Elif Neyran; Avşar, Ulaş; Hubert-Ferrari, Aurelia (2020-12-01)
Sediment core samples (H002, H003, H005 and H006) recovered from the basin of Lake Hazar located in the South East Region of Turkey. Core sam¬ ples were collected from the four sampling stations by UWITEC corer to determine diatom flora distri¬ bution in Lake Hazar. Diatom counts and identifica¬ tions were made from the sediments sampled at 1-2 cm intervals. Total of 142 species of diatoms were recorded, most of them were pennate diatoms. Ulnaria ulna, Nitzschia gracilis, Synedra nana, and Cyclotella ocella...
Metamorphic history of the southern Menderes massif, western Turkey
Whitney, DL; Bozkurt, Erdin (2002-07-01)
Metamorphic mineral compositions and textures are integrated with microstructures to test tectonic models for the construction and exhumation of a mid-crustal terrane in western Turkey. The southern Menderes massif, part of the Alpine orogen, is composed of a tilted sequence of metasedimentary rocks that structurally overlies orthogneiss. Garnet-biotite equilibria for schists collected along north-south traverses consistently indicate temperatures of 430 degreesC for the southernmost, structurally highest g...
GEOLOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL EVIDENCE FOR A LATE CRETACEOUS CONTINENTAL ARC IN THE CENTRAL PONTIDES, NORTHERN TURKEY
Ellero, Alessandro; Ottria, Giuseppe; Sayıt, Kaan; Catanzariti, Rita; Frassi, Chiara; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Marroni, Michele; Pandolfi, Luca (2015-01-01)
In the Central Pontides (Northern Turkey), south of Tosya, a tectonic unit consisting of not-metamorphic volcanic rocks and overlying sedimentary succession is exposed inside a fault-bounded elongated block. It is restrained within a wide shear zone, where the Intra-Pontide suture zone, the Sakarya terrane and the Izmir-Ankara-Erzincan suture zone are juxtaposed as result of strike-slip activity of the North Anatolian shear zone. The volcanic rocks are mainly basalts and basaltic andesites (with their pyroc...
Development of a geotechnical and geophysical database for seismic zonation of the Ankara Basin, Turkey
Koçkar, Mustafa K.; Akgün, Haluk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2008-07-01)
Engineering geological and geotechnical site characteristics were assessed and seismic hazard studies performed for the Upper Pliocene to Pleistocene fluvial and Quaternary alluvial and terrace deposits for a site west of Ankara, Turkey. Sediment conditions were determined and a soil profile was characterized by surface geophysical methods. These studies were integrated with existing in-situ characterization studies to create a seismic and geotechnical database for the site. A seismic zonation map of the si...
Modeling permian petroleum system of Netherlands: hydrocarbon generation and migration
Mert-Gauthier, Esra; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Department of Geological Engineering (2010)
Groningen Gas Field is located within the southern part of the South Permian Basin in the northeast Netherlands. Since several wells have been producing from the Carboniferous-Permian Petroleum System, the field is considered as mature for hydrocarbon exploration. More detailed work is necessary to evaluate further exploration and development opportunities. Thus, evaluation of the subsurface has been carried out as part of the petroleum system concept by using the basin modeling. In this study, seismic inte...
