Living polytetrahydrofuran (pTHF) was terminated with the potassium salt of pyrrole to yield polymers with pyrrole end groups. Copolymerization of THF and pyrrole with short and long I,THF segments was achieved by constant potential electrolysis. Syntheses of the block copolymers were performed using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate, sodium pel:chlorate, and sodium p-toluenesulfonate as the supporting electrolytes. Characterization of the block copolymers were based on scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermal gravimetry analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and FTIR studies. No significant effect of the chain length on the properties of the copolymers was observed; however, use of different dopants resulted in different thermal and electrochemical behaviors, surface morphologies, and conductivities. Conducting copolymers of polytetrahydrofuran and their electrochromic properties
Unur, E; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yagci, Y; Yilmaz, F (Wiley, 2005-03-05)
Living polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) was terminated with sodium thiophene methonate to yield a polymer with a thiophene group at one end. Copolymerizations of PTHF with pyrrole and thiophene were achieved in water-p-toluene sulfonic acid and acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) solvent-electrolyte couples via constant potential electrolyses. Characterizations of the samples were performed by NMR, cyclic voltammetry, FT-IR, thermal analyses, and scanning electron microscopy. Electrical cond...
Preparation and characterization of thermally stable phosphonium organoclays and their use in poly(ethylene terephthalate) nanocomposites
Abdallah, Wissam; Yılmazer, Ülkü (Wiley, 2013-06-15)
Purification of montmorillonite rich bentonite followed by surface modification using organic salts was performed. The bentonite was purified by sedimentation and then surface modified by ion exchange using alkyl- and aryl-based phosphonium salts. The thermal stability, morphology, melt flow, and mechanical properties of the poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) nanocomposites prepared with these organoclays were studied with and without using a reactive elastomeric compatibilizer. TEM results showed that the ...
Synthesis and characterization of poly(allyl methacrylate) obtained by gamma-radiation
Vardareli, Tugba K.; Usanmaz, Ali (Wiley, 2007-04-15)
Allyl methacrylate was polymerized by gamma-radiation under vacuum in solution and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) methods and also in the presence of atmospheric oxygen in bulk. The kinetic curve is S-type with a longer induction period, because of the presence of oxygen, in bulk polymerization. The curve for the solution polymerization is almost linear with a short induction period. The rate started to decrease after about 60% conversion and reached to a limiting conversion of 100%. The polyme...
Synthesis and characterization of poly(thiophen-3-yl acetic acid 4-pyrrol-1-yl phenyl ester-co-N-methylpyrrole) and its application in an electrochromic device
Bingol, B; Camurlu, P; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2006-05-05)
Copolymer of thiophen-3-yl acetic acid 4-pyrrol-1-yl phenyl ester (TAPE) with N-methylpyrrole (NMPy) was synthesized by potentiostatic electrochemical polymerization in acetotiitrile-tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate solvent-electrolyte couple. The chemical structures were confirmed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and UV-vis spectroscopy. Electrochromic and spectroelectrochemical properties of poly(TAPE-co-NMPy) [P(TAPE-co-NMPy)] were investigated. Results sho...
Synthesis, Characterization and Optoelectrochemical Properties of Poly(2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1-(4-(thiophen-3-yl)phenyl)-1H-pyrrole-co-EDOT)
Turac, Ersen; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yuruk, Huseyin (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 2,5-di( thiophen-2-yl)-1-(4-(thiophen-3-yl) phenyl)-1H-pyrrole (TTPP). The structure of the monomer was evaluated by H-1-NMR and FT-IR. The polymer (P(TTPP)) and its co-polymer with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (P(TTPP-co-EDOT)) were synthesized via potentiostatic electrochemical polymerization. The resulting polymers were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), FT-IR, SEM and UV-Vis spectroscopy, and conductivity ...
