Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a theme that is integrated into the quality management concept with increasing emphasis. Although CSR has been discussed as a philosophy and strategy applied mostly by large firms, recent revisions of the award schemes for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) serve as a means to promote the concept among smaller firms. The European Foundation for Quality Management's (EFQM) Excellence Model combines social issues, strategy, stakeholders, and structure in a unique way to support SMEs in fulfilling their social responsibilities. The paper investigates the extent to which the EFQM Excellence Model provides guidance in integrating CSR in quality management and then discusses the extent to which the concept can be operationalized by SMEs, giving examples from two quality award finalists in Turkey.

Using boolean- and fuzzy-logic-based methods to analyze multiple case study evidence in management research
Oz, O (SAGE Publications, 2004-06-01)
The case study method has been widely used as a research strategy in the management field. The issues of comparability and of generalizability when using this method, however, continue to raise profound challenges for researchers. Boolean- and fuzzy-logic-based methods offer a valuable basis for a contribution in this respect because they enable researchers to derive valid meaning from data and to introduce additional analytical rigor into case study research. Inspired by this opportunity, the present artic...
A team performance measurement model for continuous improvement
Cicek, MC; Köksal, Gülser; Özdemirel, Nur Evin (Informa UK Limited, 2005-05-01)
We propose a performance measurement model for providing feedback to total quality teams with the purpose of improvement. This model empowers the teams for their own performance measurement. The management should provide necessary training and facilitation to the teams for effective use of the model. The model has four components: team structure, inputs, processes, and outputs. It suggests methods for developing measures in each component, as well as use of radar charts for presenting measurement results. T...
