This paper describes a video annotation and querying system which is capable of semi-automatic annotation of videos from text. The extracted metadata is aligned with the corresponding video segments. This allows users to query videos according to their semantic content. We have chosen soccer domain to demonstrate the use of the system. The soccer videos are very suitable for our framework, since it is easy to find web-cast match reports for soccer games. The annotated videos are stored in MPEG-7 format in an object-oriented database. The keyword-based indexing allows fast retrieval of video segments. The system accepts match reports in Turkish which makes querying in Turkish possible.

Multilingual Video Indexing and Retrieval Employing an Information Extraction Tool for Turkish News Texts: A Case Study
Kucuk, Dilek; Yazıcı, Adnan (2011-10-28)
In this paper, a multilingual video indexing and retrieval system is proposed which relies on an information extraction tool, a hybrid named entity recognizer, for Turkish to determine the semantic annotations for the considered videos. The system is executed on a set of news videos in English and encompasses several other components including an automatic speech recognition system for English, an English-to-Turkish machine translation system, a news video database, and a semantic video retrieval interface....
Exploiting information extraction techniques for automatic semantic video indexing with an application to Turkish news videos
Kucuk, Dilek; Yazıcı, Adnan (Elsevier BV, 2011-08-01)
This paper targets at the problem of automatic semantic indexing of news videos by presenting a video annotation and retrieval system which is able to perform automatic semantic annotation of news video archives and provide access to the archives via these annotations. The presented system relies on the video texts as the information source and exploits several information extraction techniques on these texts to arrive at representative semantic information regarding the underlying videos. These techniques ...
An antology - driven video annotation and retrieval system
Demirdizen, Goncagül; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, a system, called Ontology-Driven Video Annotation and Retrieval System (OntoVARS) is developed in order to provide a video management system which is used for ontology-driven semantic content annotation and querying. The proposed system is based on MPEG-7 ontology which provides interoperability and common communication platform with other MPEG-7 ontology compatible systems. The Rhizomik MPEG-7 ontology is used as the core ontology and domain specific ontologies are integrated to the core on...
IMOTION — A Content-based video retrieval engine
Rossetto, Luca; Giangreco, Ivan; Schuldt, Heiko; Dupont, Stephane; Seddati, Omar; Sezgin, Metin; Sahillioğlu, Yusuf (2015-01-05)
This paper introduces the IMOTION system, a sketch-based video retrieval engine supporting multiple query paradigms. For vector space retrieval, the IMOTION system exploits a large variety of low-level image and video features, as well as high-level spatial and temporal features that can all be jointly used in any combination. In addition, it supports dedicated motion features to allow for the specification of motion within a video sequence. For query specification, the IMOTION system supports query-by-sket...
A semi-automatic text-based semantic video annotation system for Turkish facilitating multilingual retrieval
Kucuk, Dilek; Yazıcı, Adnan (2013-07-01)
It is commonly acknowledged that ever-increasing video archives should be conveniently indexed with the conveyed semantic information to facilitate later video retrieval. Domain-independent semantic video indexing is usually carried out through manual means which is too time-consuming and labor-intensive to be employed in practical settings. On the other hand, fully automated approaches are usually proposed for very specialized domains such as team sports videos. In this paper, we propose a generic text-bas...
