The solidification properties of Pd-Ni alloys are studied with constant-pressure, constant-temperature (TPN), and constant-volume, constant-temperature (TVN) molecular dynamics simulations based on quantum Sutton-Chen potential. Whether the system forms the glass structure or it transforms into ordered state is checked at various cooling rates ranging from 10 K/ps to 0.05 K/ps. The effect of concentration and cooling rates on the glass transition temperature is examined. The behavior of heat capacity at constant pressure (C-p) in glass and liquid state is analyzed. Glass forming ability is also investigated by means of transport properties such as diffusion and shear viscosity. Strength parameter calculated from shear viscosity data indicates fragile-liquid behavior. The results show that the mismatch in atomic size and having the cutectic composition are important factors for glass forming.

Structural and dynamical properties of liquid Pd-Ag alloys
Kart, HH; Tomak, Mehmet; Uludogan, M; Cagin, T (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2004-06-30)
Structural and dynamical properties of Pd, Ag pure liquid metals and especially PdxAg1-x, alloys are studied by the molecular dynamics simulation. The effects of temperature and concentration on the liquid properties of PdxAg1-x, are analyzed. Sutton-Chen (SC) and Quantum Sutton-Chen (Q-SC) many-body potentials are used as interatomic interactions. The calculated diffusion constants and viscosities are in good agreement with the available experimental data and theoretical calculations. The coefficients of A...
Structural and energetic features of AlnTinNin (n=1-16) nanoparticles: molecular-dynamics simulations
Oymak, H; Erkoç, Şakir (IOP Publishing, 2004-01-01)
Using an empirical potential energy function parametrized for the AlTiNi ternary system, minimum-energy structures of AlnTinNin (n = 1-16) ternary alloy nanoparticles have been determined by performing molecular dynamics simulations. The structural and energetic features of the nanoparticles obtained have been investigated.
Structural, electrical and anisotropic properties of Tl4Se3S chain crystals
QASRAWI, ATEF FAYEZ HASAN; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2009-10-01)
The structure, the anisotropy effect on the current transport mechanism and the space charge limited current in Tl4Se3S chain crystals have been studied by means of X-ray diffraction, electrical conductivity measurements along and perpendicular to the crystal's c-axis and the current voltage characteristics. The temperature-dependent electrical conductivity analysis in the region of 150-400 K, revealed the domination of the thermionic emission of charge carriers over the chain boundaries above 210 and 270 K...
Mechanical behaviour of Al2O3-ZrO2 minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite
Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (Informa UK Limited, 2003-08-01)
To understand the effect of a 'mesh-structured reinforcement' on the optical and mechanical properties of optomechanical composites, a unidirectional Al2O3 fibre-ZrO2 matrix minicomposite reinforced glass matrix optomechanical composite has been fabricated. By regular alignment of the minicomposites in the glass matrix as part of the 'mesh structure' a high degree of optical transparency is obtained in the composite; this transparency is proportional to its 'optical window' regions. The mesh structured rein...
A study of phase stability and mechanical properties of hydroxylapatite-nanosize alpha-alumina composites
Evis, Zafer (Elsevier BV, 2007-04-01)
Hydroxylapatite (HA)-nanosize alumina composites were synthesized to study their phase stability and mechanical properties. To make these composites, nanosize alpha-Al2O3 powder was used because of its better sinterability and densification as compared to nanosize gamma-Al2O3. The composites were air sintered without pressure and hot pressed in vacuum at 1100 degrees C and 1200 degrees C. In the composites, HA decomposed to tricalcium phosphate faster after the air sintering than hot pressing. Moreover, hex...
