We used three-dimensional finite element analysis to compare the biomechanical stability of bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomies fixed by tag screws with linear and triangular configuration, and double or single six-hole miniplates with monocortical screws after set-back operation. The three-dimensional finite element model contained 122,717 elements and 25,048 nodes. Posterior occlusal toads were simulated on the distal segments. MSC Marc software was used to calculate the stress fields on both the segments and the fixing appliances. We conclude that either triangular tag screw configuration or double miniplates led to better stability and tower mechanical stresses near the osteotomy than the linear lag screws or single oblique miniplates. FIRST-PRINCIPLES CALCULATIONS FOR THE STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES OF ScxAl1-xN ALLOYS
Mohammad, Rezek; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2013-10-01)
The first-principles calculations based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) of Engel-Vosko-Perdew-Wang and modified exact exchange potential of Becke-Johnson have been introduced for the structural and electronic properties of the ScxAl1-xN alloys, respectively. The present lattice constants calculated for the ScAlN alloys and the end compounds (AlN and ScN) are found to be in very good agreement with the available experimental and theoretical ones. The stable ...
Modeling of the nonlinear behavior of steel framed structures with semi rigid connections
Sarıtaş, Afşin; Özel, Halil Fırat (null; 2015-07-21)
A mixed formulation frame finite element with internal semi-rigid connections is presented for the nonlinear analysis of steel structures. Proposed element provides accurate responses for spread of inelasticity along element length by monitoring the nonlinear responses of several crosssections, where spread of inelasticity over each section is captured with fiber discretization. Each material point on the section considers inelastic coupling between normal stress and shear stress. The formulation of the ele...
On the linearly hardening rotating solid shaft
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (2003-03-01)
Analytical solutions are obtained for elastic-plastic deformations of a linearly hardening rotating solid shaft with fixed ends and with free ends. All stages of elastic-plastic deformations are studied using Tresca's yield condition and the flow rule associated with it. Expressions for the stresses, displacement and plastic strains for a perfectly plastic shaft can be deduced from the expressions of linearly hardening shaft by letting the hardening parameter vanish. Application of Continuum Damage Mechanics in discontinuous crack formation: Forward extrusion chevron
Soyarslan, Celal; TEKKAYA, AHMET ERMAN; Akyüz, Uğurhan (2008-06-01)
Materializing Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM), numerical modeling of discrete internal cracks, namely central bursts, in direct forward extrusion process is presented. Accordingly, in a thermodynamically consistent setting, a local Lemaitre variant damage model with quasi-unilateral evolution is coupled with hyperelastic-plasticity. The formulations are constructed in the principal axes where simultaneous local integration schemes are efficiently developed. To this end, the framework is implemented as ABAQ...
Effects of geometric factors on mode I fracture toughness for modified ring tests
Tutluoğlu, Levend (2012-04-01)
Stress intensity factors of specimen models with various external diameters, inner hole diameters, and extents of flattened loading boundaries for the modified ring testing method for mode I fracture are computed by finite element modeling. Effects of boundary conditions and geometric factors on stress intensity factor computation are analyzed. Parametric expressions are proposed to estimate critical crack length position and corresponding maximum stress intensity factor. An expression in terms of inner hol...
