A remarkably simple upper bound on the capacity loss due to imprecise channel state information (CSI) is presented for single-input single-output (SISO) general memoryless fading channels, (Capacity Loss) <= log(1 + var(h - (h) over cap )SNR) where var(h - (h) over cap) represents the variance of channel estimation error, i.e. CSI inaccuracy. The bound extends earlier work on Rayleigh channels to general memoryless channels and confirms that the effect of CSI inaccuracies on the communication capacity is secondary to the receiver noise when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is smaller than the reciprocal of the channel estimation error variance, SNR < 1/ var(h - <(h)over cap>). An extension to the single-input multiple-output (SIMO) case is also provided.

The performance and efficiency of envelope elimination and restoration transmitters for future multiple-input multiple-output wireless local area networks
Nesimoglu, T.; Parker, S. C. J.; Morris, K. A.; McGeehan, J. P. (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2008-03-01)
The inefficiency of contemporary power amplifiers ( PAs), when operating in their linear region, is a major obstacle to mobile operation of wireless local area networks ( WLANs) based on IEEE 802.11n. Therefore the use of more efficient envelope elimination and restoration ( EER) transmitter architectures is considered. In addition to high efficiency it is also necessary to satisfy the spectral mask and achieve satisfactory link- level performance. Link- level simulations of a contemporary WLAN PA show that...
A novel CEM technique for modeling electromagnetic scattering from metasurfaces
ÖZGÜN, ÖZLEM; Mittra, Raj; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (Wiley, 2020-03-01)
This paper presents a novel computational electromagnetics (CEM) technique, which hybridizes the periodic finite element method (FEM) with the method of moments (MoM), for efficient numerical modeling of electromagnetic scattering from metasurfaces consisting of truncated periodic or locally varying quasi-periodic array of structures. Based on the quasi-periodic nature of metasurfaces, the periodic FEM is employed to generate high-level macro basis functions (MBFs). Following that, a reduced MoM matrix is f...
Sector Scanning Attempts for Non-Isolation in Directional 60 GHz Networks
Olcer, Gencay Mutlu; Genc, Zulkuf; Onur, Ertan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2010-09-01)
Large path losses of millimeter waves restrain the acceptance of 60 GHz technology in future networks. Directional antennas can be exploited in 60 GHz networks to mitigate the detrimental impact of fading. Employing fully directional antennas complicates the neighbor discovery process where each sector must be probed individually to discover neighbors located in that sector. In random scanning strategy, nodes select to-be-scanned sector randomly. In this letter, we analyze the minimum number of random secto...
Visual Result Prediction in Electromagnetic Simulations Using Machine Learning
Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Ergül, Özgür Salih (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2019-11-01)
In this letter, we present a novel approach based on using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to visually predict solutions of electromagnetic problems. CNN models are constructed and trained such that images of surface currents obtained at the early stages of an iterative solution can be used to predict images of the final (converged) solution. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the predicted images contain significantly better visual details than the corresponding input images. The developed approac...
A Greedy Link Scheduler for Wireless Networks With Gaussian Multiple-Access and Broadcast Channels
Sridharan, Arun; Koksal, C. Emre; Uysal, Elif (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2012-02-01)
Information-theoretic broadcast channels (BCs) and multiple-access channels (MACs) enable a single node to transmit data simultaneously to multiple nodes, and multiple nodes to transmit data simultaneously to a single node, respectively. In this paper, we address the problem of link scheduling in multihop wireless networks containing nodes with BC and MAC capabilities. We first propose an interference model that extends protocol interference models, originally designed for point-to-point channels, to includ...
