In this study, the effect of face regions on local shape descriptor based 3D face recognition was investigated. Our approach starts with calculation of the SIFT descriptors on the shape maps of the 3D faces. In the next phase, SIFT descriptors in the selected regions are concatenated to form feature vectors. Then these feature vectors are fed into linear discriminant analysis (LDA) for face recognition. In this study, faces are segmented into 47 regions and the descriptors in one or more regions are concatenated and their effect on face recognition was investigated. Face recognition tests were conducted by using the FRGC v2.0 face database.

Analysis of magnetic resonance imaging in inhomogenous main magnetic field
Arpınar, Volkan Emre; Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this study, analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in inhomogeneous main magnetic field is conducted. A numerical model based on Bloch equation is implemented for MRI, to understand effect of inhomogeneous magnetic field to Magnetic Resonance (MR) signal. Using the model, relations between inhomogeneity levels in main magnetic field with energy, decay time, bandwidth of the FID signal is investigated. Also relation between the magnetic field inhomogeneity and field of view is determined. To simulat...
3d face representation and recognition using spherical harmonics
Tunçer, Fahri; Halıcı, Uğur; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
In this study, a 3D face representation and recognition method based on spherical harmonics expansion is proposed. The input data to the method is range image of the face. This data is called 2.5 dimensional. Input faces are manually marked on the two eyes, nose and chin points. In two dimensions, using the marker points, the human face is modeled as two concentric half ellipses for the selection of region of interest. These marker points are also used in three dimensions to register the faces so that the n...
3D face recognition with local shape descriptors
İnan, Tolga; Halıcı, Uğur; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
This thesis represents two approaches for three dimensional face recognition. In the first approach, a generic face model is fitted to human face. Local shape descriptors are located on the nodes of generic model mesh. Discriminative local shape descriptors on the nodes are selected and fed as input into the face recognition system. In the second approach, local shape descriptors which are uniformly distributed across the face are calculated. Among the calculated shape descriptors that are discriminative fo...
Modeling of asymmetric intermodulation distortion and memory effects of power amplifiers
Yüzer, Ahmet Hayrettin; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
This dissertation is focused on developing a new passband behavioral model in order to account for asymmetric intermodulation distortion resulted from memory effect. First, a measurement setup is prepared to measure the AM/AM, AM/PM distortion, magnitudes and the phases of intermodulation (IMD) and fundamental (FUND) components which are created by the amplifier where phase is calculated only by measuring magnitudes. Then, responses of a sample amplifier are measured for different excitation situations (cen...
Biomechanical modelling of the interphalangeal joints of the human hand
Yatağan, Koray Melih; Tönük, Ergin; Leblebicioğlu, Gürsel; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2021-7-15)
In this study, the development process of a 3D unconstrained model of the interphalangeal (IP) joints is presented. The model agrees with the experimental studies. It can explain the change in the axis of the IP joints, the non-linear relationship between the tendon excursion and the flexion angle, the coordination between the IP joints and the tendon forces corresponding to the flexion angle. Furthermore, some controversial topics in the literature are investigated using the model, and four theses are deve...
