This work consists of design and experimental validation of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) scheme for a cold gas thruster system which is driven by on/off type of actuators. PWM scheme designed according to the characteristics of the on/off type of actuators obtained by the developed solenoid valve model and the experimentation. Angular position of the single axis rotational platform is controlled by the PWM scheme and the state feedback angular position controller. The PWM scheme and the angular position controller are experimentally tested and the results are presented in this paper.

Swing up and stabilization of rotary inverted pendulum by using on-off type of cold gas thruster actuators
Silik, Yusuf; Yaman, Ulaş; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
In this study, swing up and stabilization of on/off type of cold gas thruster driven inverted pendulum is accomplished. First, pulse width modulator (PWM) design method is generated to obtain quasi-linear thrust output from on/off type of thruster. Than, single axis angle controller is designed. Designed angle controller and PWM scheme are tested and verified on single axis angle control test setup. Finally, an other freedom is attached to single axis test setup and rotary inverted pendulum (Furuta Pendulum...
Single axis precise motion control using piezoactuator associated with a compliant mechanism
Yaşar, Gökhan; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Yaman, Yavuz; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
Mechanical amplification is achieved using a multi-flexure-hinge based compliant mechanism, due to limited displacement range of piezoactuator. In the design stage of mechanism, a comparison matrix analysis is performed to decide the best alternative among the possible compliant mechanism candidates. The mechanical design parameters of the displacement amplifier is determined optimally using the analytical equation derived using Pseudo Rigid Body Model, and the static analysis is performed using finite elem...
Kinematic synthesis of flight control systems for light aircrafts
Yaman, Yavuz; Soylemez, E (2002-01-01)
In this paper, kinematic synthesis of a planar flight control system mechanism has been conducted for a light aircraft designed and built by TAL To achieve a simple construction, the four-bar linkages are used in the synthesis. Freudenstein's Method and Bloch's Method are utilized for analytical three and four bar position syntheses respectively. A case study of an elevator flight control system is presented.
Sliding Mode Control Of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Fed By Wind Turbine Generator Taking Saturation Effect Into Account
Benchabane, F.; Titaouine, A.; Bennis, O.; Guettaf, A.; Yahia, K.; Taibi, D. (2011-09-10)
In this paper, we present the voltage build up process and the terminal voltage control of an isolated wind powered induction generator driven by a variable speed wind turbine using rotor flux oriented vector control. A description of the studied system is provided, and a simulation study is presented. The model used for the autonomous induction generator is a diphase one obtained by application of the Park transform. Theis model permits, when adopting some simplifying hypotheses, taking account the saturat...
Wide-Speed Range Control Strategy for a 8/6 Switched Reluctance Machine
Pop, A. C.; Petrus, V.; Martis, C. S.; Iancu, V.; Gyselinck, J. (2011-09-10)
A control scheme for obtaining low torque ripple and high efficiency for a minimal reduction in average torque as compared to its maximal value is presented for a four-phase switched reluctance motor. At low speed, the torque ripple is minimized by the means of current profiling techniques. As the speed increases the controller switches to optimal firing angle control strategy. The optimal values for the angles are obtained based on minimization routine for different objective functions. Starting from the o...
