Flame retardancy effects of zinc borate and nanoclay in ABS, and boron compounds in PET
Özkaraca, Ayşe Çağıl; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
In this thesis there were two main purposes, the first one being to investigate effects of zinc borate (ZB) on the flammability behavior of ABS when used with and without a traditional brominated flame retardant (BFR) / antimony trioxide (AO) system. The second purpose was to investigate contribution of nanoclays (NC) to the flame retardancy performance of the same traditional BFR compound with various combinations of AO and ZB again in ABS matrix. For these purposes, materials were melt compounded by using...
High temperature chemistry of some borophosphates, phase relations and structural studies
Seyyidoğlu, Semih; Kızılyallı, Meral; Department of Chemistry (2003)
The solid state, hydrothermal and flux methods were used for the investigation of alkaline earth and transition metal borophosphate compounds. The products and the phase relations were investigated by XRD, IR, DTA, and EDX methods. The solid state reactions of several boron compounds with different phosphating agents have been studied in the temperature range of 400-1200 oC. Hydrothermal and flux techniques were performed at 150 oC and 1200 oC, respectively. On the other hand, an attempt has been made to pr...
Synthesis and characterization of tetracarbonylpyrazinetrimethylphosphitetungsten (0) complexes
Alper, Fatma; Özkar, Saim; Department of Chemistry (2004)
In this study, the effect of a donor ligand on the stabilization of a carbonyl pyrazine tungsten complex was studied. The pentacarbonylpyrazinetungsten(0) complex could be formed from the photolysis of hexacarbonyltungsten(0) in the presence of pyrazine and could be isolated as crystalline solid. However, the complex was found to be unstable in solution, being converted to a bimetallic complex, (CO)5W(pyz)W(CO)5 and free pyrazine molecule. Two complexes exist in solution at equilibrium. The equilibrium cons...
