We report for the first time the development of a new surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-active silver chloride silica-glass substrate prepared by using in situ precipitation of silver chloride particles in sol-gel films as a precursor for nanoparticles of silver. The controlled precipitation of silver chloride was achieved by the reaction of silver nitrate with trichloroacetic acid, which leads to a slow release of chloride ions. Silver chloride particles were reduced to silver nanoparticles by FeSO4. 7H(2)O. The sol-gel films prepared exhibit good optical properties and induce a strong SERS effect for several model compounds, including cresyl fast violet and brilliant cresyl blue. Optimization studies of substrate preparation and coating conditions were performed and are discussed in detail. The performance of this new substrate compares favorably with those of previously developed silver-coated alumina substrates, The SERS spectra of other compounds of environmental and biological interest, such as 1-aminonaphthalene, 2-aminopyrimidine, pyridine and p-aminobenzoic acid, were investigated to illustrate the usefulness of this novel type of SERS substrate for use in chemical and biological analysis. A Novel Acetylcholinesterase Biosensor: Core-Shell Magnetic Nanoparticles Incorporating a Conjugated Polymer for the Detection of Organophosphorus Pesticides
Cancar, Hurija Dzudzevic; SÖYLEMEZ, Saniye; AKPINAR, Yeliz; KESİK, Melis; Goker, SEZA; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Volkan, Mürvet; Toppare, Levent Kamil (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2016-03-30)
To construct a sensing interface, in the present work, a conjugated polymer and core shell magnetic nano particle containing biosensor was constructed for the pesticide analysis. The monomer 4,7-di(furan-2-yl)benzo [c] [1,2,5]-thiadiazole (FBThF) and core shell magnetic nanoparticles were designed and synthesized for fabrication of the biosensing device. The magnetic nanoparticles were first treated with silica and then modified using carboxyl groups, which enabled binding of the biomolecules covalently. Fo...
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF POLYVINYL-CHLORIDE) EMULSION POLYMERIZATION - EFFECT OF INITIATOR AND EMULSIFIER CONCENTRATIONS ON POLYMERIZATION KINETICS AND PRODUCT PARTICLE-SIZE
Karakaş, Gürkan (Wiley, 1989-01-01)
Effects of concentration changes in initiator species Na2SO3, (NH4)2S2O8 and CuSO4, and emulsifier, ammonium stearate, on poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) emulsion polymerization kinetics and on product particle size were experimentally investigated. It was observed that to obtain industrially significant rates and overall conversions, not only an optimum concentration ratio of Na2SO3/(NH4)2S2O8/CuSO 4 must be used, but also the concentrations of these species must be above certain limits. Increasing the concentr...
A new framework for simulation of heat treatments
Şimşir, Caner; Gür, Cemil Hakan (Inderscience Publishers, 2010-12-01)
In this study, a mathematical framework based on finite element method (FEM) capable of predicting temperature history, evolution of phases and internal stresses during thermal treatment of metals and alloys was developed. The model was integrated into the commercial FEA software MSC.Marc® by user subroutines. The accuracy of the model was verified by simulating the quenching of eccentrically drilled steel cylinders. Simulation results were justified via SEM observations and XRD residual stress measurements.
A novel experimental and density functional theory study on palladium and nitrogen doped few layer graphene surface towards glucose adsorption and electrooxidation
Caglar, Aykut; Duzenli, Derya; Önal, Işık; Tezsevin, Ilker; Sahin, Ozlem; Demir Kıvrak, Hilal (Elsevier BV, 2021-03-01)
At present, few layer graphene (G) and nitrogen doped few layer graphene (N doped-G) are firstly coated on Cu foil via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method and G and N doped-G coated Cu foil is transferred to the indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate surface to obtain electrodes. Pd metal is electrodeposited onto the N doped-G/ITO electrode (Pd-N doped-G/ITO). Pd-N doped-G/ITO electrode are characterized with advanced surface characterization methods such as Raman spectroscopy and SEM-EDX. Characterization res...
A comparative ab initio study of the ferroelectric behaviour in KNO3 and CaCO3
Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Alpay, S. P. (IOP Publishing, 2007-12-12)
Potassium nitrate exhibits a reentrant phase transformation, where a metastable ferroelectric phase (gamma-KNO3) is formed upon cooling from high temperature. The layered structure of this ferroelectric phase is composed of alternating layers of potassium ions and nitrate groups; wherein, a central nitrogen atom is coordinated by three equilateral triangular oxygen atoms. The group layer is located less than midway between the cation layers, giving rise to a polar structure. From a structural perspective, t...
