The fundamental difference between the bit-wise and message-wise unequal error protection (UEP ) is demonstrated, for fixed length block codes on DMCs without feedback. Effect of feedback is investigated via variable length block codes. Experimentally, we have obtained the thermal hysteresis for the investigated phase transitions. For the analysis of the phase transition temperatures and the peculiarities of the heterophase regions, the mean field theory has been used.
