The Near State PWM (NSPWM) method, which reduces the common mode voltage/current, is proposed for three-phase PWM inverter drives. The optimal voltage vectors and their sequences are determined. The voltage linearity and DC bus and AC output PWM current ripple characteristics are studied. The method is thoroughly investigated and its performance is compared to conventional methods. Theory, simulations, and experiments show that NSPWM exhibits superior common mode and satisfactory PWM ripple performance characteristics.

Performance characteristics of the reduced common mode voltage Near State PWM method
Un, Emre; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2007-09-05)
The Near State PWM (NSPWM) method, which has low common mode voltage/current is proposed for three-phase voltage source inverter drives. The method is described and its voltage linearity, output current ripple, DC bus current ripple, common mode voltage and output line-to-line pulse patterns are thoroughly studied and compared with classical PWM methods. The theory, simulation, and laboratory experiments illustrate that NSPWM has low common mode voltage, results in less common mode current, has low switchin...
A Near-State PWM Method With Reduced Switching Losses and Reduced Common-Mode Voltage for Three-Phase Voltage Source Inverters
Uen, Emre; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2009-03-01)
The near-state pulsewidth modulation (NSPWM) method, which reduces the common-mode voltage/current, is proposed for three-phase pulsewidth modulation (PWM) inverter drives. The method is described, its optimal voltage vectors are found, and the sequence that these vectors are applied is determined. Its voltage linearity and de bus and ac output PWM current ripple characteristics are studied. Its output line-to-line voltage pattern is carefully studied with regard to switching transients that may cause overv...

The Near State PWM (NSPWM) method, which has low common mode voltage and low common mode current, is proposed for three-phase voltage source inverter drives. The method is described and its voltage linearity, output current ripple, DC bus current ripple, common mode voltage and output line-to-line pulse patterns are thoroughly studied and compared with classical PWM methods. The theory, simulation, and laboratory experiments illustrate that in the high modulation index operating range NSPWM has superior ove...
A High-Performance PWM Algorithm for Common-Mode Voltage Reduction in Three-Phase Voltage Source Inverters
Hava, Ahmet Masum (2011-07-01)
A high-performance pulsewidth modulation (PWM) algorithm with reduced common-mode voltage (CMV) and satisfactory overall performance is proposed for three-phase PWM inverter drives. The algorithm combines the near-state PWM (NSPWM) method that has superior overall performance characteristics at high modulation index, and MAZSPWM, a modified form of the active zero-state PWM method (AZSPWM1), which is suitable for low modulation index range of operation. Since AZSPWM1 has line-to-line voltage pulse reversals...
