Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Single Carrier Block Transmissions (SCBT) are located at the two opposite edges of block transmission concept. In this paper a system which lies between OFDM and SCBT is proposed. The new system, namely Block Transmissions on Orthogonal Carriers (BTOC), can be considered as a hybrid form of OFDM and SCBT. BTOC system is investigated under the redundant filterbank precoders and equalizers framework. Peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of BTOC is formulated. Effect (of frequency offset for BTOC is also investigated. Simulation results showing the BER vs. SNR performances of zero-pad OFDM (ZP-OFDM) and cyclic prefix OFDM (CP-OFDM) as types of OFDM, zero-pad only (ZP-Only) as a type of SCBT and BTOC are also included.

Beam switching reflectarray with rf mems technology
Bayraktar, Ömer; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this thesis 10x10 reconfigurable reflectarray is designed at 26.5 GHz where the change in the progressive phase shift between elements is obtained with RF MEMS switches in the transmission lines of unit elements composed of aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA). The reflectarray is illuminated by a horn antenna, and the reflected beam is designed to switch between broadside and 40° by considering the position of the horn antenna with respect to the reflectarray. In the design, the transmissio...
Out-of-band radiation and CFO immunity of potential 5G multicarrier modulation schemes
Üçüncü, Ali Bulut; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
In this study, generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) and windowed cyclic prefix circular offset quadrature amplitude modulation (WCP-COQAM), which are candidate physical layer modulation schemes for the 5G systems, are compared to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in terms of out-of-band (OOB) radiation levels and carrier frequency offset (CFO) immunity. GFDM and WCP- COQAM are shown to be superior to OFDM with respect to OOB emissions in some studies in literature. However, we c...
Wideband Channel Estimation With a Generative Adversarial Network
Balevi, Eren; Andrews, Jeffrey G. (2021-05-01)
Communication at high carrier frequencies such as millimeter wave (mmWave) and terahertz (THz) requires channel estimation for very large bandwidths at low SNR. Hence, allocating an orthogonal pilot tone for each coherence bandwidth leads to excessive number of pilots. We leverage generative adversarial networks (GANs) to accurately estimate frequency selective channels with few pilots at low SNR. The proposed estimator first learns to produce channel samples from the true but unknown channel distribution v...
Frequency diverse array antenna with periodic time modulated pattern in range and angle
Secmen, Mustafa; Demir, Şimşek; Hizal, Altunkan; Eker, Taylan (2007-09-27)
A general analysis of a frequency diverse transmit array antenna with a periodic modulated pattern in range, angle and time is presented. This antenna array system makes a continuous scanning in range and angle without using any phase shifters. The scanning is achieved using the frequency diversity by inserting a small amount of progressive frequency shift to each antenna element. The theory shows that there is the same modulation pattern in time, range and angle by taking the remaining two parameters fixed...
