A study was made to determine the hypothetical failure of the Dalaman Akköprü Dam by overtopping failure mechanisms. For this purpose, a 2D Hydraulic Model was constructed using HEC-RAS to determine the propagation of flood due to the failure of the dam body for this case. Froehlich equations were used to predict breaching parameters of the Akköprü Dam. After the calibration of the hydraulic model, the hydraulic model was run to determine the possible flooding of Ortaca, Dalaman, and Köyceğiz towns. Ana...
Flood risk management in Ghana: A case study in Accra

Several natural disasters have occurred from the days of biblical Noah until now. These natural disasters have taken various forms like; floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruption tsunamis, tornadoes, landslides, hurricane, and among others. Within the past decades, flooding has become a global pandemic which hampers economic and social development. This global phenomenon has affected 4 million people, loss of lives and economic damages of approximately US$ 780,500,000 in Ghana. It is therefore necessary to asc...

Flood is one of the most destructive natural hazards in Turkey. It is unavoidable but its impacts can be minimized by taking necessary precautions. Flood risk mapping is a developing concept and it is used to determine economically, environmentally and socially risky areas. European Council stipulated the member countries to prepare flood hazard maps showing extents of low, medium and high probability flood events. These maps should also be prepared for Turkey during the European Union harmonization process...
Flood Interaction with River Crossings: A Case Study
Yanmaz, Ali Melih (null, Springer, 1994-01-01)
Floods are natural hazards whose effects can deeply affect the economic and environmental equilibria of a region. Quality of life of people living in areas close to rivers depends on both the risk that a flood would occur and the reliability of flood forecast, warning and control systems. Tools for forecasting and mitigating floods have been developed through research in the recent past. Two innovations currently influence flood hazard mitigation, after many decades of lack of significant progress: they are...
