In this study, swing up and stabilization of on/off type of cold gas thruster driven inverted pendulum is accomplished. First, pulse width modulator (PWM) design method is generated to obtain quasi-linear thrust output from on/off type of thruster. Than, single axis angle controller is designed. Designed angle controller and PWM scheme are tested and verified on single axis angle control test setup. Finally, an other freedom is attached to single axis test setup and rotary inverted pendulum (Furuta Pendulum) is obtained. By this way inherently unstable, under-actuated and on/off driven system is obtained. For swing up motion, energy method is applied. Balancing of the pendulum is achieved by observer based state feedback controller under small angle assumption and quasi-linear output from PWM driven thrusters.

Implementation of Dirlik’s damage model for the vibration fatigue analysis
Demirel, Gürzap İ.; Kayran, Altan (2019)
Mechanical fatigue is an important phenomenon when the structures are exposed to dynamic, fluctuating loadings. Especially aerospace structures are commonly exposed to random vibration loadings. In this paper, random vibration fatigue is studied both numerically and experimentally. For this purpose, a rectangular cross-section notched beam is designed in order to conduct the vibration fatigue analysis in the frequency domain by the Dirlik's damage model. Aluminum and steel notched beams are prepared in orde...

Fatigue life estimation of tuned vibration absorbers with response estimation method
Yılmaz, Yunus; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2022-5-24)
Tuned Vibration Absorbers are designed and used in applications where any unwanted vibration is needed to be elimination from a vibrating system. In order to accomplish that goal TVAs are needed to be designed to absorb vibrational energy on its own at a specified frequency. Since the energy is absorbed from main system to the TVA, this energy will cause high vibration levels on the TVA. Due to the excessive vibration that occurs on the TVA, vibrational fatigue life is a concern for TVA design. Vibrational ...
