Pectinase production using apple pomace as carbon source by mixed culture fermentation
Kuvvet, Ceren; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz; Department of Biotechnology (2016)
There is a growing interest in enzyme production from food and agricultural wastes to reduce the cost of production. Pectinases are one of the important group of enzymes used in fruit processing, alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea fermentation and textile industries. Pectinases can be produced by both solid state and submerged fermentation from various plant and microorganisms; however fungal microorganisms are the largest sources of bulk commercial enzymes and there are numerous studies on pectinase produ...
Abiotic stress tolerance and growth responses of transgenic potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Kennebec) plants expressing rice Osmyb4 gene
AYDIN, GÜLSÜM; Yucel, Meral; Öktem, Hüseyin Avni (2012-09-23)
MYB transcription factors are involved in diverse biochemical and physiological processes such as regulation of secondary metabolism, meristem formation, cell morphogenesis and floral and seed development. They are also involved in certain defence and stress responses and in hormone signalling. In the present study, we developed transgenic potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Kennebec) expressing Oryza sativa myb4 gene, encoding MYB4 transcription factor, driven by either CaMV35S constitutive promoter or cold i...
Collagen scaffolds with in situ-grown calcium phosphate for osteogenic differentiation of Wharton's jelly and menstrual blood stem cells
Karadas, Ozge; Yucel, Deniz; Kenar, Halime; Kose, Gamze Torun; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (2014-07-01)
The aim of this research was to investigate the osteogenic differentiation potential of non-invasively obtained human stem cells on collagen nanocomposite scaffolds with in situ-grown calcium phosphate crystals. The foams had 70% porosity and pore sizes varying in the range 50-200 mu m. The elastic modulus and compressive strength of the calcium phosphate containing collagen scaffolds were determined to be 234.5 kPa and 127.1 kPa, respectively, prior to in vitro studies. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) obtain...

Facile synthesis of (4-nitrophenyl)thio-substituted 1- pyrrolines
Korkmaz, Esra; Zora, Metin; Department of Chemistry (2019)
The importance of heterocyclic compounds is enormous in synthetic organic chemistry due to their presence in bioactive molecules. Five-membered 1-pyrrolines are one of the most important classes of them. They have recently drawn great attention from synthetic chemists since they have a prominent role for the synthesis of a great number of pharmaceutical molecules. Therefore, there is intense research on their synthesis. In this project, we concentrated on the synthesis of (4-nitrophenyl)thio-substituted 1- ...
