Low earth orbit (LEO) satellites play an important role in earth observation and communication fields. Since communication with LEO has time limitation, it is important to have high data rate transmitters in addition to having properties as small volume, lightness and efficiency. In this work, an X-band (8.2 GHz) solid state power amplifier is designed with an output power of 7W, total gain of 18.0dB and bandwidth of 200MHz as a part of an onboard transmitter with data rate of 100 Mbps. The power amplifier has two stages designed with FLM7785-4F and FLM7785-12F internally matched transistors from Fujitsu Quantum Devices and the efficiency of the first stage is 22% and the second stage is 35%.

A high efficiency power amplifier at x-band for satellite communication
Sen, Ozlem; Dudak, Celal; Nakiboğlu, Barış (null; 2003-12-01)
Efficiency linearity trade off is an important criteria in low earth orbit (LEO) satellite transmitter. In this paper, two X-band power amplifiers, one class A power amplifier and one harmonically terminated class A amplifier, are designed with an output power of 7W, total gain of 18.5dB and bandwidth of 200MHz are designed and compared in terms of efficiency and linearity. With acceptable linearity, the former is expected to give 30% efficiency while the later is expected to give 50% efficiency at 8.2GHz w...
Link analysis for BILSAT-1
Telli, Ali; Es, Alphan (2006-03-11)
,BILSAT-1, a 130 kg micro satellite, is Turkey's,2 first Low Earth Orbit Earth (LEO) observation satellite(1,2). The project was started in August 2001 at Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL)'s facilities in Guildford, UK and BILSAT-1 was launched successfully from Plesetsk Cosmodrome, Russia in 27 September 2003. The main objective of the mission is remote sensing. The communications subsystem is a core system for Earth observation satellite. It is generally used for telemetry/telecommand signaling...
A Control moment gyroscope based on rotational vibrations, dynamic model and experimentation
Arberkli, Ferhat; Azgın, Kıvanç; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
Satellite attitude determination and control system is one of the main subsystems of a spacecraft. Within this domain, there are several types of actuators; such as reaction wheels, control moment gyroscopes (CMG), propulsion systems and magnetic torque rods. All of them are common and currently being used on modern satellites and space stations depending on the application. Conventional reaction wheel and CMG operation are based on the continuous rotation of their rotor mass to exchange angular momentum be...
Orbit Control of an Earth Orbiting Solar Sail Satellite
Polat, Halis Can; Tekinalp, Ozan (2022-09-01)
A concept for the utilization of solar sail satellite's propellant-free thrust capability at Low earth orbit (LEO) is proposed and its orbit control strategy is analyzed. Thrust vector control of the sail's normal direction is used to harvest the solar radiation pressure for generating the necessary acceleration to change the orbital elements. The required control vector direction is determined with two approaches. The first approach is realized by approximating the Gaussian Variational Equations at the emp...
GPS-based real-time orbit determination of artificial satellites using kalman, particle, unscented kalman and H-infinity filters
Erdoğan, Eren; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2011)
Nowadays, Global Positioning System (GPS) which provide global coverage, continuous tracking capability and high accuracy has been preferred as the primary tracking system for onboard real-time precision orbit determination of Low Earth Orbiters (LEO). In this work, real-time orbit determination algorithms are established on the basis of extended Kalman, unscented Kalman, regularized particle, extended Kalman particle and extended H-infinity filters. Particularly, particle filters which have not been applie...
