ZIF-8 crystals with average particle sizes of 14, 23, 65, 144, and 262 nm were synthesized to prepare poly(ether sulfone) based mixed matrix membranes with 10 and 20% loading. The membranes were characterized by measuring single gas permeabilities of H-2, CO2, and CH4 at 35 degrees C with pressures from 3 to 15 bar. The separation performance of PES/pNA/ZIF-8 (10%) with 23 nm crystals was also investigated by separating CO2/CH4 mixtures at 3 and 10 bar. The single gas permeabilities decreased with increasing particle size of ZIF-8; however, the ideal selectivities depended on the ZIF-8 content of membranes. A significant improvement was obtained in the membrane performance when 23 nm ZIF-8 particles loaded PES/pNA(4%)/ZIF-8(10%) MMM. This membrane had a CO2/CH4 selectivitiy of 56.2 and permeability of 1.54 Barrer in the separation of 50% CO2-50% and CH4 mixture at 35 degrees C and 10 bar feed pressure.

The differential production cross section of the phi(1020) meson in root s=7 TeV pp collisions measured with the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (2014-07-01)
A measurement is presented of the phi x BR(phi -> K+ K-) production cross section at root s = 7 TeV using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 383 mu b(-1), collected with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Selection of phi(1020) mesons is based on the identification of charged kaons by their energy loss in the pixel detector. The differential cross section is measured as a function of the transverse momentum, pT, phi, and rapidity, y(phi), of the phi(1020) meson in the fiducial regi...
The quantitative relationship between structure and polarized spectroscopy in the FMO complex of Prosthecochloris aestuarii: refining experiments and simulations
Wendling, M; Przyjalgowski, MA; Gulen, D; Vulto, SIE; Aartsma, TJ; van Grondelle, R; van Amerongen, H (2002-01-01)
New absorption, linear dichroism (LD) and circular dichroism (CD) measurements at low temperatures on the Fenna-Matthews-Olson complex from Prosthecochloris aestuarii are presented. Furthermore, the anisotropy of fluorescence excitation spectra is measured and used to determine absolute LD spectra, i.e. corrected for the degree of orientation of the sample. In contrast to previous studies, this allows comparison of not only the shape but also the amplitude of the measured spectra with that calculated by mea...
The use of n-polyethereal polypyrroles in preconcentration and surface enhanced raman scattering studies
Köksel, Bahar; Volkan, Mürvet; Department of Chemistry (2009)
Polypyrroles containing polyether pseudocages (PI, PII, PIII) have been synthesized via chemical oxidation of 1,5-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3-oxabutane (MI), 1,8- bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6-dioxahexane (MII), and 1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)- 3,6,9-trioxaundecane (MIII) using anhydrous FeCl3 in CHCl3. Because as obtained polymer resins did not give any response toward any cations, they were reduced (undoped) using chemical reducing agents. Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) was found to be more effective in undoping to obtain ...
THE CRITICAL-BEHAVIOR OF THE RAMAN INTENSITIES OF THE LATTICE MODES IN AMMONIUM HALIDES
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (1993-03-01)
Our observed Raman intensities for the lattice modes of TA(M)(93 cm-1) and TO(M)(144cm-1) of NH4Cl were used to extract the critical exponents for the order parameter in this crystal system. Our exponent values are 0.15+/-0.02 (1st order, T(c)=241 K, P=0), 0.24+/-0.04 (tricritical, T(c)=255 K, P=1.5 kbar) and 0.33+/-0.10 (2nd order, T(c)=268 K, P=3 kbar), which agree with the model predictions.
The effect of changes in pi-conjugated terthienyl systems using thienyl and ethylenedioxybenzene functionalized thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine precursors: Multicolored low band gap polymers
Tarkuc, Simge; Unver, Elif Kose; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2010-10-01)
New classes of thieno[3,4-b]pyrazines containing thienyl and ethylenedioxy phenyl units on electron-withdrawing moieties of pi-conjugated terthienyl were synthesized. The effect of structural differences on electrochemical and optoelectronic properties of the resulting polymers was investigated. Changes in the electronic nature of the functional groups enable to tune the electrochemical properties of the pi-conjugated terthienyl monomers by lowering oxidation potential from 062 V (DTTP) to 056 V (DBTP) Spec...
