We construct the conserved charge of generic gravity theories built on arbitrary contractions of the Riemann tensor (but not on its derivatives) for asymptotically (anti)-de Sitter spacetimes. Our construction is a generalization of the Abbott-Deser-Tekin charges of linear and quadratic gravity theories in cosmological backgrounds. As an explicit example we find the energy and angular momentum of the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole in the (2 + 1)-dimensional Born-Infeld gravity. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.86.124030

Energy in generic higher curvature gravity theories
Deser, S; Tekin, Bayram (2003-04-15)
We define and compute the energy of higher curvature gravity theories in arbitrary dimensions. Generically, these theories admit constant curvature vacua (even in the absence of an explicit cosmological constant), and asymptotically constant curvature solutions with nontrivial energy properties. For concreteness, we study quadratic curvature models in detail. Among them, the one whose action is the square of the traceless Ricci tensor always has zero energy, unlike conformal (Weyl) gravity. We also study th...
Mass and angular momentum of asymptotically AdS or flat solutions in the topologically massive gravity
Olmez, S; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2005-10-21)
We study the conserved charges of supersymmetric solutions in the topologically massive gravity theory for both asymptotically flat and constant curvature geometries.
Energy in topologically massive gravity
Deser, S; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2003-11-07)
We define conserved gravitational charges in cosmologically extended topologically massive gravity, exhibit them in surface integral form about their de Sitter or flat vacua and verify their correctness in terms of two basic types of solution.
Conserved charges in various theories of gravity
Özşahin, Hikmet; Tekin, Bayram; Department of Physics (2022-9)
The first law of black hole thermodynamics in the presence of a cosmological constant $\Lambda$ can be generalized by introducing a term containing the variation $\delta\Lambda$. Similar to other terms in the first law, which are variations of some conserved charges like mass, entropy, angular momentum, electric charge etc and it has been shown in \cite{1} that the new term has the same structure: $\Lambda$ is a conserved charge associated with a gauge symmetry. In this work, first we propose and prove the...
Conserved charges in extended theories of gravity
Adami, Hamed; Setare, Mohammad Reza; Sisman, Tahsin Cagri; Tekin, Bayram (Elsevier BV, 2019-11-20)
We give a detailed review of construction of conserved quantities in extended theories of gravity for asymptotically maximally symmetric spacetimes and carry out explicit computations for various solutions. Our construction is based on the Killing charge method, and a proper discussion of the conserved charges of extended gravity theories with this method requires studying the corresponding charges in Einstein's theory with or without a cosmological constant. Hence we study the ADM charges (in the asymptoti...
