Mathematical expression of the temperature profile and experimental determination of compression heating of ethylene glycol during high hydrostatic pressure processing
Buzrul, S.; Alpas, Hami; Largeteau, A.; Demazeau, G. (Informa UK Limited, 2007-03-01)
In this study, we aimed to describe the temperature profile in the pressure vessel and the compression heating during high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) processing. Regression coefficients (R-2), root mean square error (RMSE) values and residual plots suggested that fourth-order polynomial function produced reasonable fits to define the temperature profile for all the pressures studied (300-600 MPa). If all the coefficients of this empirical model are determined, initial and final temperatures, a value close t...
Mathematical modeling of survival and weight loss of Baker's yeast during drying
Alpas, Hami; BOZOGLU, F; KATNAS, S (1996-10-01)
Drying and death rates of Baker's yeast were studied in a computer-controlled laboratory scale tunnel drier with varying air velocity between 2.0-3.0 ms-1 and temperatures within the range of 40-60 degrees C. Two falling rate periods were observed during the drying process. A single first-order expression described the death rate of the microorganisms during both drying phases. Arrhenius-type expressions described the effects of the temperature on the first falling rate period drying and death rate constant...
Mathematical modelling of blood flow through arteries and investigation of some pathological cases in cardiovascular system using Grad-div stabilization
Kökten, İsmail Tahir; Kaya Merdan, Songül; Department of Mathematics (2019)
In this thesis, we investigate the grad-div stabilization method and its feasibility on the cardiovascular system. Governing equations on blood flow is chosen to be Navier-Stokes and numerical solution is obtained by Galerkin finite element approximation. Grad-div stabilization is known as an effective residual based stabilization method and no study exists about its effect on the cardiovascular system. In this thesis, we present a grad-div stabilized fully discrete scheme with backward Euler time discretiz...
Mathematical modeling of thermal decomposition of coal
Guruz, GA; Uctepe, U; Durusoy, T (Elsevier BV, 2004-06-01)
Pyrolysis, as a first step in all thermochemical coal conversion processes, has been investigated in detail over the years in order to evaluate the kinetic data and to establish reliable models for the complex reaction scheme. Since coal pyrolysis is not a single reaction but rather a multiplicity in different time intervals for isothermal pyrolysis, or in different time and temperature intervals for the case of heat-up, any set of parameters cannot be expected to represent data accurately over a wide range...
Mathematical modelling of geothermal carbon dioxide production in a specific field in Turkey.
Kumsal, Beril; Akın, Serhat; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2020)
Turkey’s non-condensable gases production from geothermal fields is very high when compared to other countries’ average production values. A big predominance of these gases is generally carbon dioxide (CO2) and the origin of this CO2 is generally meteoric for the studied area as reservoir rocks are carbonate-dominated metamorphic rocks such as dolomitic marbles and marbles. The dissolution of calcite mineral within the reservoir rocks, where it equilibrates with water, results in CO2 release from the system....
