In this research, thermal characterization and kinetics of Karakus crude oil in the presence of limestone matrix is investigated. Thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) is used to characterize the crude oil in the temperature range of 20-900 degrees C, at 10 degrees C min(-1) heating rate using air flow rate of 20 mL min(-1). In combustion with air, three distinct reaction regions were identified known as low temperature oxidation (LTO), fuel deposition (FD) and high temperature oxidation (HTO). Five different kinetic methods used to analyze the TG/DTG data to identify reaction parameters as activation energy and Arrhenius constant. On the other hand different f(alpha) models from literature were also applied to make comparison. It was observed that high temperature oxidation temperature (HTO) activation energy of Karakus crude oil is varied between 54.1 and 86.1 kJ mol(-1), while low temperature oxidation temperature (LTO) is varied between 6.9 and 8.9 kJ mol(-1).

DSC study of the combustion properties of turkish coals
Ozbas, K.E.; Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Hicyilmaz, C. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2003-01-01)
In this research, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to determine the combustion behavior and kinetic analysis of raw and cleaned coal samples of different size fractions. DSC curves of the three coal samples (Soma, Tuncbilek and Afsin Elbistan) showed two reaction regions. The first reaction region was due to moisture loss (endothermic) and observed in the temperature range of ambient to 150°C. The second region was the exothermic region due to the combustion and observed in the temperature r...
Comparative combustion kinetics for in situ combustion process
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Elsevier BV, 2001-03-22)
In this research, thermal characteristics and combustion kinetics of three crude oils (13-27 degrees API) were investigated using DuPont 9900 thermal analysis system (TG/DTG). A sample size of 10 mg. heating rate of 10 degreesC min(-1) were used in the temperature range of 20-700 degreesC under air atmosphere. Theoretically, combustion of fuel can be initiated whenever oxygen comes in contact with fuel. However, the temperature, composition of fuel and oxygen supply dictates the nature of this reaction. In ...
Resveratrol and its analogues resveratrol-dihydroxyl isomers: semi-empirical SCF-MO calculations
Erkoç, Şakir; Keskin, N; Erkoc, F (Elsevier BV, 2003-08-01)
The structural and electronic properties of resveratrol and its three analogues resveratrol-dihydroxyl isomers have been investigated theoretically by performing semi-empirical self-consistent field molecular orbital theory calculations. The geometry of the systems have been optimized and the electronic properties have been calculated at the level of AMI method.
Ammonia deposition in fullerene: (NH3)(n) @C-60
Erkoç, Şakir; Turker, L (Elsevier BV, 2003-11-17)
Deposition of ammonia molecules in fullerene has been investigated theoretically by performing semi-empirical molecular orbital calculation at PM3 level within RHF formalism. C-60 cluster has been doped endohedrally by ammonia molecules. Structural and electronic properties of the systems considered have been studied. It has been found that C60 cluster can store at most six ammonia molecules. The ammoniacal endofullerenes, (NH3)(n)@C-60, have been found stable but endothermic.
Structural and electronic properties of single-wall GaN nanotubes: semi-empirical SCF-MO calculations
Erkoc, S; Malcıoğlu, Osman Barış; Tasci, E (Elsevier BV, 2004-04-09)
The structural and electronic properties of armchair and zigzag models of single-wall GaN nanotubes have been investigated by performing semi-empirical molecular orbital self-consistent field calculations at the level of PM3 method within the RHF formulation. It has been found that these structures are stable and endothermic. The armchair model has zero net dipole moment, whereas the zigzag model has nonzero net dipole moment. It has been found that GaN armchair tube with even number of hexagonal rings on t...
