Growth factor loaded silk fibroin/PEGDMA hydrogels for articular cartilage tissue engineering
Fathi Achachelouei, Milad; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Engin Vrana, Nihal; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2018)
The aim of this study was to develop bFGF and TGF-β1 loaded polymeric nanoparticles (PNPs) and dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) containing dimethacrylated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEGDMA)/silk fibroin hydrogels as scaffolds for regeneration of the cartilage tissue. Poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared with double emulsion-solvent evaporation technique. The effect of different excipients (poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PetOx), heparin and Kolliphor P 188) on the entrapment efficienc...
Cytotoxicity evaluation of gelatin sponges prepared with different cross-linking agents
Ulubayram, K; Aksu, E; Gurhan, SID; Serbetci, K; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2002-01-01)
Gelatin is a natural polymer used in pharmaceutical and medical applications, especially in the production of biocompatible and biodegradable wound dressings and drug delivery systems. Gelatin granules hydrate, swell and solubilize in water, and rapidly degrade in vivo. The durability of these materials could, however, be prolonged by cross-linking by aldehydes, carbodiimides, and aldose sugars, but the biocompatibility of collagenous biomaterials is profoundly influenced by the nature and extent of cross-l...
Design and characterization of capsaicin loaded nanoemulsions
Akbaş, Elif; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Söyler, Ulviye Betül; Department of Food Engineering (2016)
In recent years, nanoemulsion based systems have been successfully used in food, medical and pharmaceutical applications as effective lipophilic carrier systems for nutraceuticals, drugs, antioxidants and antimicrobial agents. The primary active ingredient of chili pepper, capsaicin is a hydrophobic substance and was proved to be a compound showing good antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms. The aim of the proposed study was to prepare and characterize capsaicin loaded nanoemulsion systems. ...
Genetic polymorphisms of alcohol inducible CYP2E1 in Turkish population
Ulusoy, Gülen; Adalı, Orhan; Department of Biochemistry (2004)
Cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1), the ethanol-inducible isoform of cytochrome P450 superfamily, catalyzes many low molecular weight endogenous and exogenous compounds, including ethanol, acetone, drugs like acetaminophen and chlorzoxazone, and industrial solvents like benzene and styrene, most of which are carcinogenic. Besides, it has a high capacity to produce reactive oxygen species. CYP2E1 is induced by ethanol and isoniazid, as well by some pathophysiological conditions like diabetes and starvation. CYP2E1 ...
Production of lactic acid by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of horse chestnut shell by using lactobacillus casei
Çetin, Zeynep Başak; Çekmecelioğlu, Deniz; Hamamcı, Haluk; Department of Food Engineering (2022-8-01)
Lactic acid is a multifunctional organic acid used as an acidifier, flavoring, or preservative in textile, food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Bacterial fermentation is the most preferred method for lactic acid production, but the often-used refined sugar increases the cost of production. For this reason, a new environmentally friendly, sustainable, and low-cost carbon source is being researched. The seeds of horse chestnut are mostly used in the pharmaceutical industry for antioxidant production...
