Genelde spontane olarak oluşmuş tüm çevrelerde ev tiplerinin biçimlenişi malzeme ve iklim gibi çevresel kaynaklara ve toplumun kültür sistemine -ideoloji ve teknolojisine- bağlıdır. Özelde ise çevre biçimlenişi yukardaki ana ölçütlerin farklılaşmasını sağlayan, zamana, yöreye ve biçimlenişe katkıda bulunan sosyal sınıflara bağlıdır. Yazıda tanıtılan yöntemin amacı, genel biçim özellikleri bilinen belli bir konut tipinin ve etkilediği tiplerin sistematik olarak ortaya konulabilecek özellik dizilerinden hangilerinin gözlenen konutta bulunduğunu, konut mahremiyetini zedelemeden süratle belirliyebilmektir. Böylelikle gözlenen birimler için saptanabilecek biçime ilişkin bu özelliklerin, zaman, mekan ve toplum boyutlarında hangi noktaya oturduğunun belirlenmesi, belli bir konut tipinin ve etkilediği tiplerin Türkiye ölçeğinde, mekansal, zamansal ve toplumsal dağılımı ve bu dağılım ilişkilerini belirlemeye yardımcı olacaktır. Bu çalışmada ele alınan konut tipi Kuban'm "Türk çağının Anadolu'da geliştirdiği konut kültürünün gerçek temsilcisi" olarak belirttiği ve "esas yayılma alanı Anadolu'nun kıyıları ile orta yayla arasında bir ikinci çember gibi dolanan ve Sivas dolaylarından batıya ve iç Ege'den Torosların kuzey yamaçlarına kadar uzanan ve yer yer diğer bölgelerde ve Balkanlarda görülen hımış yapı tekniğinde, yani taşıyıcı sistemi ağaç, kerpiç dolgulu, zemin katı çokluk taş olan bir yapı tekniği ile inşa edilmiş olan konut mimarisi" ve onun etkilediği bölgesel tiplerdir.
