Kapitalist üretim biçimi, yapısı gereği eşit olmayan gelişme yasalarına uyar. Bu toplum biçiminin bir dengeler bütünü olduğunu savlayan görüş, kuramla nesnel gerçeklik arasındaki uyuşmazlığın nedenini piyasa mekanizmasının tam olarak işleyememesine bağlar. Bu yapı içinde eğitim kurumlarının ana işlevleri: 1) Toplumsal üretim için gerekli temel bilgi ve becerileri Öğretmek, geliştirmek, 2) Sistemin ideolojisini yaymak, benimsetmek olarak özetlenebilir. Bu ana işlevler yanında kapitalizmin kendine özgü iç çelişkilerinin yarattığı eşitsizliklerin giderilmesinde eğitimin büyük katkısı olduğu savı, bu toplum biçiminin meşru kılınmasında etkili bir araç olarak kullanılır. Bu yazıda eğitim kurumlarının üretimin yapısı ile olan ilişkileri, toplumsal yapı içindeki yeri ve işlevleri konusunda radikal iktisatçıların geliştirdiği kuramsal çerçeve ana çizgileriyle özetlenmeye çalışılacaktır.
