Contemplation on spark sensitivity of certain nitramine type explosives

2009-09-30
Türker, Burhan Lemi
Spark sensitivity of explosives is an important subject. Presently, some correlations are sought between the spark sensitivity and certain molecular orbital characteristics of some nitramine type explosives. For that purpose certain semi-empirical and DFT calculations have been carried out. Investigations have revealed that the nitramines considered undergo decomposition in the electric field mainly via their anionic states.

Ab initio and DFT study on 1,4-dinitroglycoluril configurational isomers: cis-DINGU and trans-DINGU
Türker, Burhan Lemi; Atalar, Taner (2006-09-01)
cis-1,4-Dinitroglycoluril (1,4-dinitrotetrahydroimidazo[4,5-d]imidazole-2,5-(1H,3H)-dione, C4H4N6O6, known as DINGU in the literature) is an important explosive regarded as one of the potential ingredients for LOVA (low vulnerability ammunition) applications. However, there is no study concerning trans-DINGU, to the best of our knowledge. Thus, in the present study the structural and electronic properties of the configurational isomers of DINGU (cis- and trans-isomers) have been investigated by performing d...
A numerical study on the thermal initiation of a confined explosive in 2-D geometry
Aydemir, Erdogan; Ulaş, Abdullah (Elsevier BV, 2011-02-15)
Insensitive munitions design against thermal stimuli like slow or fast cook-off has become a significant requirement for today's munitions. In order to achieve insensitive munitions characteristics, the response of the energetic material needs to be predicted against heating stimuli. In this study, a 2D numerical code was developed to simulate the slow and fast cook-off heating conditions of confined munitions and to obtain the response of the energetic materials. Computations were performed in order to pre...
A Trigonometric Approach to a Limiting Law on Detonation Velocity
Türker, Burhan Lemi (2012-01-01)
Detonation velocity is an important characteristics of explosive compounds. Presently, to get some insight about the detonation velocity, a novel trigonometric model has been suggested first in 2-dimensional form and then extended to 3-dimension. In the 2D-form the detonation velocity is considered to be a function of the total energy and a newly defined "angle of detonation", Q, of an explosive molecule. The angle of detonation velocity is also shown to be a nonlinear function of the total energy. In the 3...
Detection of electro-explosive detonators by RF signature
Kılıç, Özgehan; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Electro-Explosive Detonator (EED) is the main trigger mechanism in most of the explosive systems. Explosion of these systems start with the burning of the EED bridge wire by excess current, followed by the explosion of higher amount of explosives. Accidental or on purpose explosion of these explosives results in many losses. The electrical properties of the EEDs are modeled at the microwave frequencies, but there is no focus on the detection of EEDs by their RF signature. MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUS...
A DFT Study on Benzotrifuroxan and its Isomers
Türker, Burhan Lemi (Informa UK Limited, 2010-01-01)
Benzotrifuroxan is a powerful, hydrogen-free explosive material. It also has an interesting chemistry. Through ring opening and reclosure mechanisms, various isomers are likely to form. In the present study, within the density functional theory (B3LYP/6-31G(d)), isomeric benzotrifuroxans, dinitrosobenzodifuroxans, and tetranitrosobenzomonofuroxans as well as hexanitrosobenzene have been investigated. Also, the monoionic forms of some of these have been considered.
