A computer program is developed for the design of pressure vessels. The design rules of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Division 1 are applied. The program is written in a graphical utility version of GWBASIC, which has a wide variety of uses in IBM and/or IBM compatible PC user. The program has a wide range of choices for the selection of materials which have been specified by the Design Code.

Numerical analysis of ablation process on a two dimensional external surface
Aykan, Fatma Serap; Dursunkaya, Zafer; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
The thermal response analysis of an ablative material on a two dimensional external surface is performed. The method is applied to both rectangular and cylindrical coordinate systems, where rectangular coordinate system is used for comparison with results available in literature. The current study solves the decomposition of the material at high temperatures by using the nth order Arrhenius equation but excludes the removal of char from the surface due to mechanical erosion or phase change and considers tha...
Computer aided engineering of an unmanned underwater vehicle
Cevheri, Necmettin; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
Hydrodynamic and thermal analyses performed during the conceptual design of an unmanned underwater vehicle are presented in this study. The hull shape is determined by considering alternative shapes and the dimensions are determined from the internal arrangement of components. Preliminary thermal analyses of the watertight section are performed with a commercial software called FLUENT to check the risk of over-heating due to the heat dissipation of devices. Performance of the proposed hull design is analyze...
Development of a multigrid accelerated euler solver on adaptively refined two- and three-dimensional cartesian grids
Çakmak, Mehtap; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
Cartesian grids offer a valuable option to simulate aerodynamic flows around complex geometries such as multi-element airfoils, aircrafts, and rockets. Therefore, an adaptively-refined Cartesian grid generator and Euler solver are developed. For the mesh generation part of the algorithm, dynamic data structures are used to determine connectivity information between cells and uniform mesh is created in the domain. Marching squares and cubes algorithms are used to form interfaces of cut and split cells. Geome...
Computer aided design and simulation of year around air conditioning-comfort application
Ertuğ, Müzeyyen Oya; Oskay, Rüknettin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
The aim of this thesis is to develop a computer program to design and simulate air conditioning-comfort application of a selected building, for a year period, on an hourly basis. In order to carry out this study, a computer program named “AHUSIM.m”, is prepared with Matlab computing language. The design and simulation procedure starts with preparing the inputs like indoor, outdoor design states, zone cooling and heating loads, along with the general data for conditioning-comfort equipment. The program, in l...
Optimal external configuration design of missiles
Tanıl, Çağatay; Platin, Bülent Emre; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2009)
The main area of emphasis in this study is to investigate the methods and technology for aerodynamic configuration sizing of missiles and to develop a software platform in MATLAB® environment as a design tool which has an ability of optimizing the external configuration of missiles for a set of flight requirements specified by the user through a graphical user interface. A genetic algorithm based optimization tool is prepared by MATLAB is expected to help the designer to find out the best external geometry ...
