A variational description of the free and localised states of the acoustic deformation potential polaron

1988-3-30
The ground-state property of the acoustic deformation potential polaron is retrieved variationally in the overall range of the coupling constant. The calculation is based on an appropriate extension of the strong-coupling theory and yields a reasonable description of the free and self-localised states of the coupled electron-lattice system.

A gauge model of amorphous solids containing defects
Dereli, Tekin; Vercin, Abdullah (Informa UK Limited, 1987-11)
A gauge model of amorphous solids is formulated as a theory of connection in the orthonormal-frame bundle over the body manifold with the structure group SO(3). The construction of free-energy integrals and the properties of maximally symmetric configurations are discussed.
A two-dimensional polaronic donor in a magnetic field
Erçelebi, Ayşe Çiğdem (IOP Publishing, 1988-3-30)
The effect of electron-phonon coupling on a two-dimensional donor in a magnetic field is studied variationally. It is observed that the influence of the magnetic field on the phonon-induced shift in the binding energy is more marked for stronger Coulomb potentials and larger phonon couplings. Even though the magnetic field enhances electron-phonon coupling in an absolute sense, for cyclotron frequencies larger than the LO phonon frequency the relative shift (with respect to the unperturbed binding energy) i...
Evidence for Collective Multiparticle Correlations in p-Pb Collisions
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2015-06-01)
The second-order azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics, nu(2), are obtained in p-Pb and PbPb collisions over a wide pseudorapidity (.) range based on correlations among six or more charged particles. The p-Pb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 nb(-1), were collected during the 2013 LHC p-Pb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. A sample of semiperipheral PbPb collision data at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2...
AN EXTENSION OF THE PHYSICAL THEORY OF DIFFRACTION CONCEPT FOR APERTURE RADIATION PROBLEMS
ALTINTAS, A; BUYUKDURA, OM; PATHAK, PH (American Geophysical Union (AGU), 1994-11-01)
A correction to the Kirchhoff-Huygens approximation in the format of a diffraction coefficient is derived for an aperture terminated by a half plane. As in the physical theory of diffraction (PTD), this is achieved by considering the end point contribution to the aperture integral. It is seen that when the aperture is taken as conformal with the surface of the half plane, the conventional PTD result is obtained.
Studies of Beauty Suppression via Nonprompt D-0 Mesons in Pb-Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2019-07-01)
The transverse momentum spectra of D-0 mesons from b hadron decays are measured at midrapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 1) in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The D-0 mesons from b hadron decays are distinguished from prompt D-0 mesons by their decay topologies. In Pb-Pb collisions, the B -> D-0 yield is found to be suppressed in the measured p(T) range from 2 to 100 GeV/c as compared to pp collisions. The suppression is w...
